After a low scoring game yesterday I am placing my MLB picks 'over' as the Astros take on the Chicago White Sox. MLB odds makers have this line pretty high but I think we could have a lot of runs today.

The Baseball Betting Line
MLB odds makers have come out with a total of 9 for this game and after looking at the pitchers it makes sense.  Neither team is at the top of the league in hitting but they both should have good days at the plate against two subpar pitchers.

Check out Charles' MLB pick for Blue Jays vs. Twins, too.

Veteran Pitchers
John Danks takes the hill for the White Sox.  He comes in with an ERA of 5.69 and a 1.45 WHIP.  He simply has not been sharp this year and has allowed 11 earned runs in his last 10 innings.  Career wise his numbers are not that great either with an ERA of 4.33 and batter are hitting over .260 off him.  Roberto Hernandez gets the start for Houston, and he as well has not been sharp this year.  He comes in with a 4.77 ERA and 1.35 WHIP and has allowed nine earned runs in his last 11 innings.  Career wise, ERA of 4.60 and like Danks, batters are hitting over .260 against him.

Break Out
Neither the Astros nor the White Sox are particularly strong offensively.  Houston ranks in the bottom of the league in batting average, but besides that, they are a middle tiered offense.  The White Sox rank in the bottom half of the league in most offensive categories.  Recently though both teams have been better in most categories, in the last three games the Astros rank 10th in on base % and the White Sox 15th.    Also both these teams can score in bunches, the Astros have score six or more runs 17 times this season and the White Sox 8 times.

I don’t see either pitcher holding the other team down today.  Both of them could be in for a long day on the mound, so place your MLB pick on the 'over.'
