We’re going to examine the AL West divisional matchup tonight between Seattle and Oakland. Be sure to read our enlightening betting preview article on this game that culminates with a money line selection.

AL West Series Opener of a Four Game Set in Oakland
Two AL West rivals will open a four game series on Thursday in Oakland at 10:05 PM ET when Mariners and A’s collide. Seattle has gone 5-1 versus Oakland so far in 2015, and those encounters went 4-1-1 over the total. Oakland enters today with a disappointing 16-24 home record. Seattle has held serve on the road this season with a 19-19 mark. Both teams are coming off wins yesterday. Seattle was a 7-0 winner at San Diego, and Oakland had a 4-1 home victory versus Colorado. Although very odd, it must be mentioned, Seattle is 0-7 when playing on Thursdays this season.

Starting Pitchers
Seattle will send southpaw Roenis Elias to the mound tonight. Elias has displayed terrible form during his previous three starts, posting a mammoth 10.29 ERA. He’s gone 1-3 in his team starts versus AL West opponents this year, and posted a lofty 5.79 ERA during those outings.

Veteran southpaw Scott Kazmir gets the start tonight for Oakland. Kazmir has shown superb form over his last four starts, posting a stellar 1.98 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and nearly a 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio. He’s also gone a very good 5-1 in his team starts versus AL West teams while posting a brilliant 1.09 ERA and 0.87 WHIP. Kazmir is 45-17 in his career team starts as a money line home favorite of -125 to -175 like he’ll be this evening.

Facing Southpaws
The Seattle Mariners have gone 7-10 this season when having to face southpaw starting pitchers. They’re averaging just 3.0 runs per game and hitting .235 as a team in that role.

Oakland has gone a dismal 5-14 this season versus left-handed starters. They averaged 3.5 runs per game and hit .243 as a team when taking on that role.

Final Analysis
This one is an extremely tough call. The Mariners have dominated the season series between these clubs in 2015. However, neither one of Thursday’s starting pitchers participated in any of those six games. Oakland has a decided edge in that department tonight with Kazmir over Elias. For that reason alone, I’ll lean toward the home side for one of my MLB picks today. Bookmaker provides the best price pertaining to wagering on the money line home favorite.

MLB Pick: Oakland -163 on the money line at Bookmaker.
