The San Francisco Giants have been one of the best bets in baseball under manager Bruce Bochy during postseason play, which provides them value in Game 1 vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.

Making Moves
San Francisco has never lost a postseason series under manager Bruce Bochy, which is important to consider when making your MLB betting picks Saturday night, as it has compiled a 26-10 record in that situation.

The Giants failed to score more than three runs in eliminating the Washington Nationals in four games in the previous round, but Bochy made all the right moves, with the starting rotation and bullpen posting 1.40 and 1.86 ERAs respectively.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the club is 40-38 as road underdogs of +100 to +125, with no clear edge in terms of the betting total (38-38-2 Over/Under).

Late-Inning Heroics
St. Louis scored 15 of its 18 runs in the seventh inning or later in moving past the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, with leadoff hitter Matt Carpenter being the spark plug, as he hit a home run and a double in each of the first three contests.

The Cardinals are led by a former Major League catcher of their own in the dugout, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB odds as Mike Matheny has averaged 92 wins over the last three seasons since taking over for Tony La Russa.

It’s important to point out that the franchise put together a 22-13 record when the betting total was 7 or less at Busch Stadium this year.

Bumgarner
Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner will take the mound for the third time during the 2014 MLB playoffs, as he looks to bounce back from a 4-1 home loss to the Nationals Monday—giving up three runs (two earned) and six hits over seven frames.

The left-hander went 11-4 with a 2.22 ERA in 18 road games during the regular season, with opposing hitters batting .224 against him (.260 at home).

In seven games versus the Red Birds, Bumgarner has compiled a 3-4 record and 3.97 ERA, including a 3-2 mark and 3.27 ERA in five efforts at this venue.

Wainwright
Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright has been dealing with right elbow tendinitis at different times this season, which could potentially explain his no-decision effort against the Dodgers last Friday, as he gave up six runs and 11 hits in 4.1 innings of work.

He has gone 8-2 with a 2.24 ERA in 11 outings this season with five or more days of rest, with Matheny planning to call upon him again in Game 5 of this series if necessary.

In 12 lifetime games (10 starts) versus the Giants, Wainwright has registered an even 5-5 record and 3.11 ERA.

Prediction
I’m going to recommend that readers back the Giants as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve proven victorious in 16 of Bumgarner’s last 21 starts away from AT&T Park.
