NL East Rivals begin Series in Atlanta
The Atlanta Braves will host the Washington Nationals on Monday at 7:10 PM ET. This will be the opener of a three game series between these NL East rivals. According to the MLB odds at BetOnline, Washington is a -113 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. Atlanta went 11-8 versus Washington in 2014, and eleven of the nineteen went under the total.

Starting Pitchers
The Washington Nationals will send right-hander Doug Fister out to the mound on Monday. In three starts this season, Fister has a very good 2.37 ERA. Fister was dominant in his two starts versus Atlanta in 2014, allowing no earned runs, and seven hits during 15.0 innings pitched.

The Atlanta Braves will go with southpaw Eric Stults on the hill for this series opener. Stults is 1-2 in his teams starts this season with a somewhat lofty 4.50 ERA. Stults was ineffective during two starts versus the Nationals in 2014, posting a large 9.39 ERA, and horrible 2.35 WHIP.

Two Ice Cold Teams
The Washington Nationals enter today losers of five in a row. The Nationals are off to an extremely disappointing 7-12 start to the season, and that includes 2-7 on the road. They’ve scored just a combined five runs on twenty-three hits during their previous four games.

The Atlanta Braves return home for the first time today since completing a nine game in ten day road trip which saw them go 2-7. After getting off to an encouraging 5-0 start to the season, the Braves are now just 9-9.

Final Analysis
I’m giving the Nationals a sizable advantage in the starting pitching matchup with Doug Fister over Eric Stults. Despite their slow start, Washington is, and will be, clearly better than Atlanta when it’s all said and done. It’s just a matter of time before the Nationals get it rolling. The Braves are right where I predicted they would be for the majority of the 2015 season, and that’s very mediocre at best. I’m leaning toward the road team in this game for one of my MLB picks on Monday.
