The Oakland A's are working their way back toward the .500 mark, and send their big dog to the mound to complete a sweep of the Rangers in Texas Thursday afternoon. Who should we add to our MLB picks tonight?
A's-Rangers Thursday Betting Odds
In early action the best price we could find on Oakland and Sonny Gray was the -149 offered at Heritage, while Texas and Colby Lewis were getting +143 at 5Dimes.
Oakland has taken the first two games of this series, by scores of 8-6 and 8-2. Both those games played OVER the totals.
So the A's (33-41) have won four games in a row, and eight of their last 10, while Texas (37-35) has lost four in a row.
Oakland also leads this season series eight games to four, with the OVERS going 8-3-1.
Lewis (7-3, 4.08) is working on a string of four quality starts in a row. Last time out he held the White Sox to one run through eight innings, and over his last four starts he's allowed nine runs through 29 innings. For the season Lewis has allowed 88 hits through 88 innings, with 17 walks and 68 strikeouts; Texas is 7-7 in Lewis' starts, with the totals leaning OVER by a 9-5 margin, mostly because of some good run support.
Since the beginning of last season Lewis has started four times against Oakland, allowing just seven runs through 24 1/3 innings; the Rangers won three of those games.
Gray (8-3, 1.95) was going great, with four quality starts in a row, but last time out the Angels got him for five earned runs in six innings of a 12-7 A's loss. For the season Gray has allowed just 72 hits through 102 innings, with 25 walks and 90 strikeouts; Oakland, a team that's eight games under .500 overall, is 8-7 in Gray's starts, with the totals skewing OVER by a 10-3 margin, mainly, again, because of some decent run support.
Over the last two seasons Gray has started nine times against Texas, allowing just 12 ER through 64 1/3 innings; the A's won six of those games, and six of those games played UNDER.

Oakland is hot, Texas is cool, and that's good enough for us. And because we like to take chances we'll go with the visitors against the run line. Also, considering the track record of these two starting pitchers against today's opponents, we're thinking UNDER for our MLB picks.
