Before sharing our MLB pick for tonight's Orioles-Yankees match, we took into account that NY will likely be affected by playing less than 24 hours after their win over the Red Sox.
AL East Series Opener at Camden Yards
The Orioles will entertain the Yankees tonight at Camden Yards in Baltimore. According to the MLB odds at Bookmaker, Baltimore is a -115 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN, and the first pitch is slated for 7:05 PM ET. These American League East Division rivals met nineteen times a season ago, and the Orioles were 13-6 in those encounters.
The Yankees will send Michael Pineda to the mound for Monday’s series opener. Pineda was very sharp during his first start in 2015. He went 6.0 innings in that outing, allowed two earned runs on six hits, and struck out six while walking just one in a 4-3 win over Toronto. Pineda has been dominant in his young career when facing the Orioles. In four starts versus Baltimore, Pineda has an excellent 1.78 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and a better than 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio.
The Orioles will go with southpaw Wei-Yin Chen tonight. This will be his second start of the season, and he was a bit shaky in his 2015 debut. During that outing he allowed three earned runs on four hits while walking two in 4 1/3 innings of work. Chen has struggled in ten career starts versus the Yankees, posting a lofty 4.99 ERA, and the Orioles went 4-6 in those games.
Yankees bats Awaken
The Yankees scored a combined seventeen runs in their first five games of the season, and then they erupted for fourteen runs in a blowout win on Sunday night over the Boston Red Sox. The Bronx Bombers have now gone over the total in each of their previous five games. The bullpen has been exceptional to start the season, evidenced by a staff ERA of 1.93 in 32 2/3 innings pitched. The Yankees have the unenviable task of having to travel following a Sunday night game, play with no rest, and face an opponent which played at home yesterday afternoon.
Orioles Hitters in Midseason Form
The Baltimore Orioles so far this season have scored five runs or more in five of their first six games. They’ve also belted an incredible eleven home runs in those six games. Unfortunately their pitching has left a lot to be desired so far. They’re allowing 5.3 runs per game, and the bullpen staff has a lofty 4.56 ERA.
MLB Betting System
When preparing MLB picks keep in mind that any team (Baltimore) that’s -100 to -150 on the money line, that had a bullpen ERA of 3.75 or better the season before, and their bullpen pitched six innings or more in the previous game, has gone 39-9 (81.2%) since 1997. They also had a large +2.0 run per game differential in those forty-eight games.
