Our MLB analyst previews Friday’s game between the Dodgers and Cardinals. Join us in reading this intuitive betting article concluded with a MLB pick.

NL Wild Card Contenders Collide
The Dodgers and Cardinals begin a crucial series with playoff implications on Friday. The opening pitch at Busch Stadium in St. Louis is slated for 8:15 PM ET. Current MLB betting odds at BetOnline and Pinnacle has the Dodgers as a -110 money line favorite, and the posted total is 8.0.

Since 2014, St. Louis has gone 12-9 versus Los Angeles, and 15 of those 21 games stayed under the total. As a matter of fact, during that same time frame, 7 of 8 games played in St. Louis went under the number. It must be noted that Los Angeles is 42-22 (65.6%) under the total this year as a money line favorite of -110 or greater.

Starting Pitchers
Veteran right-hander Brandon McCarthy will make just his fourth start of the season for the Dodgers. McCarthy spent the first three months of 2016 on the disabled list. He’s been brilliant upon his return, compiling an outstanding 1.69 ERA and 0.75 WHIP during those aforementioned three appearances.

St. Louis will go with a right-hander of their own in Michael Wacha. The Cardinals hurler has been in somewhat shaky form over his last four starts, evidenced by a lofty 4.57 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over the course of that time. Wacha has uninspiring numbers this year through ten starts at Busch Stadium, proven by a 4.88 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in those outings.

Money Line Betting Angle
The Dodgers have a +0.6 run per game differential to this point of the season. Conversely, the Cardinals have a notable +1.1 run per game differential in 2016. The combination of these two pieces of statistical data, in addition to the current money line, sets up a very profitable betting angle, and it will be a key component for one of my Friday MLB picks.

Any money line favorite of -110 or greater, possessing a +0.5 or more run per game differential, versus a team with a +1.0 or better run per game differential, resulted in those favorites going 117-44 (72.7%) since 2012. The average money line in those 161 games was -127.3, and the favorites had a sizable +1.7 run per game differential.
