It's the start of a new week and there are a lot of competitive games tonight in the MLB as there's not one clear cut ace taking the mound, with the exception of Max Scherzer. Should we tail some of the teams that are running hot? Find out in our MLB Picks of the Day segment for Monday.

Seattle Mariners vs L.A. Angels

Stinker Alert!
That would be the Los Angeles Angels, who have grabbed their spot back in the basement of the American League West Division. The Angels have lost a whopping 10 straight games and have played themselves out of any realistic chance of making the post-season. This is quite surprising as this is a team with Mike Trout and Albert Pujols.

King Felix and the Seattle Offense
The Angels have a chance to break this streak tonight as they face the Seattle Mariners (62-54) at home. The only problem with this idea is that Felix Hernandez, the best pitcher in the American League in the last decade, is starting tonight against the Halos and this is as favorable of MLB odds that the bettor will receive with The King in a situation such as this.

Hernandez is used to playing on losing teams and not receiving run support in the past, but he's on a winning team and has Robinson Cano (26 HR, 74 RBI, .294 BA), Kyle Seager (22 HR, 77 RBI, .284 BA), and Nelson Cruz (29 HR, 73 RBI, .284 BA) supporting him this season. This is actually the most dominant offense that King Felix has had behind him and he's 6-4 with a 3.39 ERA.

Hernandez was injured for part of the season, but he has just 80 strikeouts in 95 2/3 innings this season. He simply hasn't been as dominant and maybe all of the innings that he's pitched throughout his career have taken it's toll on him. Although he hasn't lost a game in his 5 starts since returning from injury on July 20th, Hernandez has pitched 32 2/3 innings and has allowed 16 runs on 27 hits. He's also coming off of a very good outing in a no-decision against Detroit in which he allowed just 1 run on 3 hits in 7 innings pitched. Look for Felix Hernandez to pitch well against a team in the Angels, who have bottomed out.

In their last 7 games, the offense has been a real problem for Los Angeles. They've been outscored 48-15 and that's an embarrassment. Mike Trout is just 3 for his last 16 at-bats and Albert Pujols is just 2 for 19. These are the two players that have to hit for the Halos to be competitive. The Mariners are the obvious pick here.

Washington Nationals vs Colorado Rockies

Scherzer at Coors Field
The betting total is now down to 10 runs as there's a legitimate ace in Max Scherzer (12-7 ,2.80 ERA) who will be pitching at Coors Field. One thing that really bothers me is the statistics of the Colorado Rockies players. Just like players who have taken PED's that have bloated statistics like Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez ,this is sort of the same thing as guys like D.J. LeMahieu ( 8 HR, 43 RBI, 331 BA) and Carlos Gonzalez (23 HR, 79 RBI, .323 BA) would be a shell of themselves if Coors Field wasn't their home park.

Case In Point
LeMahieu, who is hitting .417 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in the month of August, is hitting .378 at Coors Field as opposed to .288 on the road. His on-base percentage at Coors is a whopping .478 and on the road, it's .338. We look at Cargo's numbers and he has 17 HR, 53 RBI, and a .363 BA at Coors Field. On the road, he's a mere 6 HR, 26 RBI, and a .286 BA. This is so blatant that there should be an asterisk with all Coors Field numbers. No MLB officials ever point this out. This is just one fan's perspective.

Tonight, Cargo and LeMahieu won't have such an easy time of it as they face a better team in the Washington Nationals (69-47). Washington has won their last 2 games in protecting their divisional lead, while the Rockies have lost 3 straight games. Max Scherzer has also been a beast as of late, lowering his ERA in his last 8 starts from 3.52 to 2.80. In all 8 of those starts, Scherzer has had a quality outing and not allowed more than 3 runs in a ball game. With Daniel Murphy having a career year and Bryce Harper back in the lineup, this adds to the support that Max Scherzer will receive. Washington is the MLB pick.
