A winning day is a good day. While the Detroit game was rained out, we managed to squeeze out a victory with New York over Los Angeles even though Tanaka got a “no-decision.”
Not a huge slate today; just 7 games, so I recommend for bettors to not force the issue in search of action.
Oakland Athletics (15-10) vs. Texas
Dead Even Matchup
Both teams are coming off of losses to inferior opponents. The Texas Rangers appeared to be cruising, but a Kyle Seager 3-run home run in the 8th inning, changed the complexion of Sunday’s game and handed the Rangers a disappointing 6-5 loss. Seager hit 2 round trippers for the game and occasionally a player will “go off” in such a way.
The Oakland Athletics are not used to losing and are in a mini-slump as they’ve lost their last 2 games to a pathetic Houston Astros team. The A’s managed just 1 run and 2 hits in yesterday’s game and they could be in trouble as they face Yu Darvish (1-0, 1.61) tonight.
Darvish vs. Gray
We could see a real low scoring affair tonight as you have two of the hottest pitchers in the American League battling each other.
Strikeout machine, Yu Darvish, faces Sonny Gray (3-1, 2.25) of the A’s. Gray has been on the money as he’s put together 5 quality outings in all 5 starts this season while not allowing more than 3 runs in any game. He’ll be tested facing the likes of Prince Fielder, Adrian Beltre, and Alex Rios. That said, this isn’t one of the strongest lineups that Texas has presented in the last few years.
Everything points to an under in this game.
Buying a ½ Run
I like to buy runs in certain situations and we’re going to go to 5 Dimes Sportsbook and buy ½ run here and take the under 8 at -125 on the MLB odds board.
MLB Pick: Texas/Oakland Under 8 -125 at 5 Dimes (buying ½ run)
Chicago Cubs (8-16) vs. Cincinnati
Both of these teams are reeling thus far this season. Cincinnati, who is clearly the better team, started off the seasons in a slump, got back on track, and has recently lost their last 3 games. The Chicago Cubs are the Chicago Cubs; they’re perennial losers.
One thing is for certain is that both teams have two good hurlers starting tonight in Jeff Samardzija (0-2, 1.53) and Alfredo Simon (3-1, 1.30) for the Reds.
Samardzija is the much more established pitcher, but can’t seem to get run support from a weak Cubs offense while the Reds have provided an ample amount of offense when Simon has taken the mound.
Cincinnati’s lineup is pretty stacked with Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, and Brandon Phillips, but Jeff Samardzija can stop an opposing offense in its tracks. This game has under written all over it just like the Texas-Oakland game.
We’re going to buy a ½ run in this game for our MLB picks also because Cincinnati does have some firepower.
MLB Pick: Chicago/Cincinnati Under 8 -140 (buying a ½ run)
Good luck, everyone!
