Our resident MLB handicapping professional resumes with his daily “Totals of the Day”. Read what he has to say pertaining to betting totals in games between the Rays/Blue Jays and Mets/Cardinals.
Rays (Odorizzi) vs. Blue Jays (Hutchinson) 7:07 PM ET
Jake Odorizzi has pitched beyond expectations for the Rays thus far in 2015. The young right-hander has gone 11-2 under the total in thirteen starts this season, posting a terrific 2.30 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. Odorizzi was superb in his only start versus Toronto this season. In that outing at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, he allowed just 1 earned run, 2 hits, and walked 3 in 8.0 innings during a 2-1 Rays win. He also made two starts in 2014 versus the Blue Jays, compiling an excellent 1.32 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in those appearances. The Rays are 26-15-2 under the total on the road in 2015.
As bad as Drew Hutchinson has been on the road this year, he’s been every bit as good at home. Hutchinson has gone 6-2 in his home team starts with a stellar 2.12 ERA and a better than 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio. The Jays right-hander has allowed just 2 home runs in 51.0 innings pitched at the Rogers Centre this season.
Neither of these teams are hitting with any regularity in recent games. The Rays have a paltry .227 team batting average over their previous seven games, and the Jays are at .230 during that exact time frame. I like this to be a low scoring game, and one of my MLB picks on Friday will be indicative of that prediction. BetOnline provides the best current price in regards to a wager on going under the total.
MLB Pick: Play on the Rays and Blue Jays under 8.5 (-1158) at BetOnline
Mets (Syndergaard) vs. Cardinals (Lynn) 8:15 PM ET
Noah Syndergaard enters tonight in very good form over his previous three starts, posting an excellent 1.23 ERA, 0.68 WHIP, and compiling a 6:1 strikeout to walk ratio. All three of those games went under the total. The Mets have gone 5-1 under the total in their last six games. They’re also allowing just 1.6 runs per game in the last seven, and holding opponents to a paltry .171 team batting average during that time. The Mets average just 2.9 runs per game and are hitting only .229 as a team on the road this year.
Lance Lynn has been lights out in eight home starts in 2015, posting a sparkling 1.90 ERA, and went 7-1 under the total. As a matter of fact, in his last three at Busch Stadium, Lynn has a microscopic 0.44 ERA. He hasn’t been the only Cardinals pitcher to perform well this season. St. Louis is allowing just 2.7 runs per game and held opponents to a .240 team batting average in 2015. They’ve also gone 28-13-1 under the total at home this year. Heritage received my wager on this game due to a very favorable price compared to the other major sportsbooks.
MLB Pick: Play on the Mets and Cardinals under 7.0 (-105) at Heritage.
