We are just 10 days from the start of the MLB season and while there is a big break in between the first game of the season and Opening Day, we still need to handicap the season-end awards to find some value. BetOnline has odds all the big three MLB awards and there is value in all three lines.

Home Run Odds

Right now, the favorite to lead the league in home runs is Giancarlo Stanton at +800. Since the odds have come out he has been shortened some, but so have his Yankees teammates.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Who will be MLB’s home run leader this season?

Giancarlo Stanton: +700
Aaron Judge: +1000
Mike Trout: +1600
J.D. Martinez: +1800
Joey Gallo: +1800
Khris Davis: +2000
Bryce Harper: +2500
Nolan Arenado: +2500

(Odds via BetOnline) ;/a>
— B/R Betting (@br_betting) 19 de fevereiro de 2019
\n"}[/]

After opening a little less than a month ago, Aaron Judge has moved all the way up to +900, but there have been some much bigger movement in the odds as well.

For instance, after opening at +1800 to lead the league in homers, Joey Gallo has moved all the way to +1000, while Khris Davis’ odds have been cut in half from +2000 when it opened to +1000 just days before the season starts.

There has been some other shortening on guys like Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, but the two Yankees, Gallo and Davis are the clear favorites right now. Last year’s runner up JD Martinez is also in the mix at +1400.

Stanton and Judge are in the better hitter’s park by far from the other favorites, but the odds seem to reflect that as well. At this point, whomever took BetOnline to the cleaners after putting Davis at 20/1 are probably feeling pretty good right now. Davis has hit a minimum of 42 home runs over the last three seasons and in 2018 he set a new career high with 48 dingers.

Gallo is a little bit of a worry, but Davis presents a ton of upside as well.

Davis was second in the league in in isolated power last year behind only Trout and I could see him leading the league in ISO here in 2019. He may not be the hitter that the other favorites are, but he has more raw power than all of them and I think that could lead to another season close to 50 home runs.

My Pick: Khris Davis (+1000)

MVP Odds

The MVP race this season should be a good one as well. Right now, Mike Trout is the clear favorite in the American League at +250, while the next closest AL contender is Mookie Betts at +600.

However, the NL race seems to be a lot tighter. There are three players with odds less than 10/1 and a few others like Kris Bryant (+1200) and Christian Yelich (+1600) that should be in the mix at the end of the season.

However, while Bryce Harper (+500) and Nolan Arenado (+650) are two very intriguing favorites at the top, I’m going with a guy who is also now on a new team, but that team might be a lot better than Harper’s by seasons end.

Paul Goldschmidt (+900) is now on the Cardinals and with Marcell Ozuna protecting him in the lineup, Goldy should get plenty of pitches to hit in the NL Central. He is playing in a tough division, but now that he has a lot of protection on both sides in the Cards’ lineup, I could see the first baseman smashing 35 homers and driving in at least 110 to 115 runs this season.

Those numbers could put him in contention and I think the sportsbooks are discounting his upside somewhat.

My NL MVP Pick: Paul Goldschmidt (+900)

CY Young Odds

The NL Cy Young race is pretty much Max Scherzer’s to lose. He is sitting at +250 to win the award, while the next highest favorite is Jacob DeGrom at +400 and Aaron Nola at +900.

The AL side is a little more interesting. Corey Kluber is the odds on favorite right now at +250, but Chris Sale is right behind him at +325 and Luis Severino is coming in pretty close at +600 as well.

Severino has been dealing with some injury issues this spring, but he is more than capable is winning the Cy Young award with the run production he should see. Severino could easily be a 20-game winner this year if he stays healthy along with the talented Yankees lineup.

The problem is going up against the top two favorites is going to be tough, because both should have as good or better numbers. With that in mind, the two races for Cy Young are a little too close to call at this point, so I’m staying away unless more value uncovers itself later in the spring.

My Pick: No Play
