In looking over today's MLB betting card there are some underdogs with merit today. Two involve pitchers who have been in a good groove and the other could see his team scoring runs.

This is not to say all three of these pitchers and their team will be victorious today, however, even if we are correct on two of them for MLB picks, that would result in a welcome payday.

Let's talk about who these potentially lovable dogs could be tonight.

Rangers Holland Looks Solid North of the Border
Derek Holland (3-1, 2.48 ERA) was hurt in first start of 2015, came back to pitch late in the season with mixed results. He is now healthy and could be big factor for Texas. The lefthander when right has a quality four-pitch mix and can baffle opposing hitters like he has so far this year with them batting just .206 against him.

Texas has lost two of the first three in the series to Toronto, with the offense the greatest issue, with only six total runs scored. In theory, the Rangers should not tally a lot more facing J.A. Happ (3-0, 2.76), who is going through a career renaissance at 33, with an 11-3 record and 3.20 ERA dating back to last season.

Both the Rangers and Blue Jays are underachieving in the early going and from wagering value perspective, the MLB odds on Texas at +175 at Bookmaker are very inviting. With the total at 8.5, this could also benefit the Rangers with Toronto 5-12 when the total is 8 to 8.5 this season.

Nationals and Ross Slow Cubs
So much for the same old Washington team in 2016. The hiring of Dusty Baker was thought to be a mistake for the Nationals and after being swept by Philadelphia at home, those with a negative point of view were on social media with more vile "I told you so's". Washington's troubles were expected to continue with road series in Missouri.

This has not happened, as the Nats have played with fury and are one bad ninth inning from heading to play the Chicago Cubs on a six-game road winning streak. Washington will utilize Joe Ross (3-0, 0.79) who has allowed two runs in almost 23 innings of work, with teams batting just .195 against him.

Betting against the Cubs would appear foolhardy, but with the Nationals just as hot at the moment and catching +136 on the money line against No.5 starter Kyle Hendricks (1-2, 3.91), Washington deserves consideration.

Colorado Raising Cane in Frisco
The NL West has distinctive ballparks, each with their own flavor and Colorado has its third stop in one of them on this road excursion. The Rockies flourished in the thinner air of Arizona with a sweep, but were curtailed in losing series to San Diego with the marine layer of the nearby Pacific Ocean.

Tonight they visit San Francisco, who also has the thicker air during night games and spacious area from left to right centerfield. Colorado is a +124 underdog and honestly, we are not thrilled about starting pitcher Chris Rusin (1-0, 1.69), who is a bullpen hurler and fill in when the need arises for starter.

Why the Rocks can win is they are facing Matt Cain (0-3, 7.00). It is painful to watch the former workhorse of the Giants staff, who seems to be coming to the end very quickly, but is owed a lot of money, which is why he is still starting. Cain has not won a game in a dozen outings and has a 6.75 ERA in that stretch and San Francisco had to fly from Cincinnati with no days off from road trip.
