Sunday afternoon’s MLB betting has the Los Angeles Angels looking for a home sweep against the New York Yankees, following Saturday’s 6-2 victory as 120 favorites.

Angels right-hander Jered Weaver (1-2, 3.77 ERA) is slated to face Yankees southpaw C.C. Sabathia (6-5, 4.07 ERA), with New York trying to avoid its sixth straight defeat. Let's evaluate the matchup and odds to come out with a winning baseball pick!

Angels, Aybar pull away

Los Angeles’ Erick Aybar and Albert Pujols drove in two runs each as part of Saturday’s victory, uniting to bat 4-for-8. Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick notched a 3-for-3 day, adding to his club’s 12 hits.

Yankees mates Brett Gardner and Jayson Nix both logged one RBI, with outfielder Ichiro Suzuki finishing 2-for-4. New York’s Robinson Cano and Lyle Oberbay were held to a combined 0-for-7, while cleanup man Mark Teixeira left early with a wrist injury.

Weaver edged out in Baltimore

Weaver took the hill for his first road start in two months, lasting 5 2/3 frames in Monday’s 4-3 defeat for Los Angeles to the Baltimore Orioles. The 30-year-old gave up all four of Baltimore’s runs, failing to collect as a 126 betting odds favorite.

Angels sluggers Mike Trout and Josh Hamilton drilled one long ball each, uniting to finish 3-for-9. Los Angeles’ Mark Trumbo left four men on base from the cleanup spot, while Hamilton logged the matchup’s sole error.

Sabathia lit up by A’s

Sabathia went six innings in Tuesday’s 6-4 loss for New York as a 107 road dog against the Oakland Athletics. The 13-year veteran surrendered two homers as part of eight hits, allowing all of Oakland’s scoring in the contest’s first six innings.

New York’s Vernon Wells notched one RBI, pinch hitting in a late four-run surge from his club’s bats. Yankees third baseman Kevin Youkilis left six men on base in a 1-for-4 outing, with he and his mates edging Oakland in hits, 10-9.

Back the Yankees on Sunday

Weaver opened as a 140 favorite at William Hill, while early betting on the Angels lifted the premium to minus 160. The ‘total’ was first set at 7 ½, with initial UNDER wagers adding minus 130 odds to its side.

I am backing the Yankees and Sabathia as road dogs here, looking for Joe Girardi’s club to cash at a sizable price.

Sabathia has held foes to a .286 OBP in his six daytime starts this year, with the Yankees cashing at a 4-2 clip. The six-time All-Star last visited Anaheim for a pair of starts in 2011, giving up just two earned runs over the span’s 14 2/3 IP.

Weaver was stingy in his two home starts this year, but both came against National League clubs. The hurler’s two road starts against Baltimore and Texas were a different story, giving up nine earned runs over 10 2/3 frames of action.

New York has its injuries mounting, but still has some bats with solid history against Weaver’sarm. Robinson Cano and Lyle Overbay have united to hit 15-for-43 lifetime, including three doubles and a homer from Overbay.

Look for the Yankees to feel the pressure here and step up for a win as big dogs in this ‘getaway’ spot, avoiding a second straight series sweep.

MLB Pick: New York Yankees +140 at William Hill
