The Subway Series continues tonight as the Yankees look to build upon their late inning rally and extra inning victory last night. Let’s review the MLB odds in this second of a four-game set and get back on track.

N.Y. Yankees vs N.Y. Mets
If you have gambled long enough then you know how euphoric the highs can be and how low the soul-crushing the losses feel. I’m not talking about one loss. I am talking about a series of consecutive blown covers like the one that vexed me last night. For all who follow me on Twitter, my MLB picks included the New York Mets who took a two-run lead into the eighth inning before the Yankees rallied to tie and ultimately prevail 6-5 in the 10th inning. After a season in which I could do no wrong I suddenly find myself being unable to right this rudderless ship.

Let’s review the matchup in this one and cross our fingers that we get it right. Regardless of how far the pendulum has swung, the key is to stay true to the core of your betting strategy. The tide will eventually turn in your favor if you do your due diligence, study the matchups and shop for the best MLB odds available. Here we go.

Yankees’ Tanaka Gets the Start
Masahiro Tanaka (7-3, 3.16 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) was roughed up in his last outing when he surrendered four runs on seven hits in a 4-1 loss to the Astros in Houston. However, he has been the Yankees ace in the rotation this season with a team leading 134 innings pitched and a 3.16 ERA complemented by a 1.11 WHIP.

The Japanese import is 1-1 when starting against the Mets with an ERA of 1.20 and a WHIP of 0.60. His team's record is 1-1 (-0.1 units) in these starts and he took a tough loss in his last trip to Citi Field in September of last season when he allowed two runs (both solo shots) on a total of five hits in a 4-1 loss.

Betting Analysis
The Mets will counter with a fine pitcher of their own when they send the ace of their rotation Jacob deGrom (6-5, 2.56 ERA, 1.08 WHIP) to the mound tonight. The 28-year-old dazzled in his last start when he allowed just five hits and no runs to the Rockies but the team dropped a 2-1 decision despite deGrom’s scoreless seven innings.

The Yankees are 5-1 against the Mets over the past three seasons and will have a tough matchup with deGrom on the hill tonight. But the Bombers have an ace of their own who will undoubtedly be looking for redemption after an uncharacteristic hiccup in his last outing. In addition to the Mets being shorthanded in their lineup due to injuries, we must consider that deGrom has had issues with the Yankees in the past as evidenced by his 0-2 mark with an ERA of 5.25 and a WHIP of 1.333. His team's record is 0-2 (-2.0 units) in both of those starts.

The Mets are last in the league with runners in scoring position and their offense behind deGrom has not been good. Here we have an elite pitcher in deGrom with only a 6-5 record to show for his efforts and is winless against his opponent tonight. Though some will argue that the Mets desperately need this win while the Yankees have waved the white flag by dealing two of their most prized bullpen possessions in Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller, I would say that the Mets lack of offense gives the Yankees a better than decent chance to secure a victory here with Tanaka on the hill.
