After winning the first game of the series the Yankees were hammered by the Rangers last night. Let's analyze the rubber game of this series and get on the sharp side in our MLB picks.

2016 MLB Record (11-7, +3.87 units)

New York Yankees (8-11, -4.9 units)
If the Yankees elite pitching prospect Luis Severino experiences any more growing pains it just may kill his professional career. Severino is the Yankees' next big thing. At the age of 22 he was expected to be an ace in the rotation but his outings thus far have tumbled him all the way back to Triple A.

Last night was the pitcher's denouement in the big leagues, at least for now. Severino was shelled for six runs on seven hits in only three innings of work and leaves the majors after posting an 0-3 record with a 6.86 ERA. The Pinstripers are mired in the basement of the AL East and are currently tied for the 27th ranked offense in terms of runs scored.

Former ace CC Sabathia takes the hill for the Yankees and trots out a 1-1 record with a 5.28 ERA in three starts on the young season. Sabathia is 12-4 when starting against the Rangers with an ERA of 5.10 and a WHIP of 1.500. His team's record is 15-7 (+4.9 units) in his appearances including a 6-2 mark with a 5.04 ERA in nine starts at the newly renamed Global Life Ballpark.

Texas Rangers (11-10, +2.6 units)
The Rangers snapped a three game slide in spectacular fashion last night as they belted out 13 hits and scored 10 runs in their 10-1 thrashing of the Yankees in the second game of a three-game set.

Every Texas starter had a hit except centerfielder Delino DeShields but Ian Desmond more than made up for it, leading the cavalcade of offense with two hits, including a solo shot, while plating three runs in the offensive onslaught. The Rangers are ranked 9th in runs scored and have a .253 team batting average that places them 14th in the big leagues in that category.

The No.3 man in the Rangers’ starting rotation, Martin Perez, would like to forget about his last outing when he surrendered five runs on five hits in just five plus innings of work which led to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the White Sox. It was the first poor start of the season for the four year veteran from Venezuela.

In his previous three outings he had lasted at least six full innings and allowed a total of seven earned runs combined. Perez gets an opportunity to exorcise the demons from his only start against the Yankees which took place in July of last year when he was torched for eight runs in just one inning of work that led to a 21-5 Texas defeat.

Betting Analysis
MLB odds boards have installed the home town Texas Rangers as -130 favorites and with good reason. Some may argue that C.C. Sabathia’s teams have historically fared quite well against the Rangers throughout his career (15-7, +4.9 units) but you can toss all that aside because this C.C. Sabathia is as far removed from his former Cy Young self as Delta Burke is to being a beauty queen.

On the flipside we have a Texas team whose bats were on fire yesterday going against a fast fading star in C.C. Sabathia. The Rangers’ starter Martin Perez is a good, solid hurler and should handle this Yankees lineup that has failed miserably to put crooked numbers on the scoreboard. For me the choice is easy and I am going to lay the price and include the home team in my MLB picks tonight. Let’s make it five wins in a row!
