Our MLB analyst provides us with a betting preview on Saturday’s game between the Cubs/Diamondbacks. Go inside before making a move on your MLB picks today.

Cubs (Hendricks) vs. Diamondbacks (Greinke) 8:10 PM ET
The Cubs and Diamondbacks will play the third of their four game series on Saturday. The teams split the first two games with Chicago winning 14-6 on Thursday, and Arizona coming out on top 3-2 last night. Since 2014, Arizona has gone 6-2 at home versus the Cubs. According to current (10:30 AM ET) MLB odds at Heritage , Arizona is a -109 money line favorite, and the posted total is 8.0.

Starting Pitchers
The Cubs Kyle Hendricks will make his 2016 debut start on Saturday. Hendricks is coming off a solid 2015 campaign which was his first full year in the majors. He went 8-7 in 32 starts while posting a respectable 3.95 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. Hendricks was very sharp in his spring training appearances. He started six games and came on in relief once, compiling a stellar 2.73 ERA while having a better than 7:1 strikeout to walk ratio. He was especially sharp in his final spring training start against the Angels last Sunday. During that outing, Hendricks went 5.0 innings, allowed 1 earned run, and struck out 7 batters. He’s made one career start versus Arizona and that took place last September. Hendricks allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits in 5.0 innings of work during a 6-4 Cubs win.

Arizona made a big splash in free agency by signing Zack Greinke to a mammoth 6-year 206.5 million dollar contract. Needless to say, Greinke’s opening day start versus Colorado was a massive disappointment. He allowed 7 earned runs on 9 hits in a 10-5 loss. What’s even more shocking was the 3 home runs he surrendered. That was the first time he gave up 3 home runs in a start since 2009, and his 7 earned runs was the most Greinke allowed since 2012. On some positive notes, Grienke was 19-3 a season ago for the Dodgers with a terrific 1.66 ERA and 0.80 WHIP during 32 starts. He finished second in the NL Cy Young balloting, and his ERA was the best of all MLB starting pitchers. From 2011 to 2015, Greinke went an outstanding 87-31 (.737) in 188 starts.

Final Take and Pick
Both of these teams have put up some impressive offensive numbers during this opening week of the season. Thus prompting a rather sizable posted total for Saturday’s game, and especially so considering it involves a pair of National League clubs. My professional intuition lends me to believe that Zack Greinke will bounce back with a strong performance today. Kyle Hendricks is primed for a very good year if his spring training appearances are any indication. Relative to the current total, I like this game to be a low scoring affair, and one of my Saturday MLB picks will be indicative of that prediction.
