Houston Astros (17-29) at Los Angeles
This is certainly a favorable matchup for the Angels ,who haven’t seen 5 games above .500 in a couple of years. The Angels, who have won 7 out of their last 10 game, send Jered Weaver (4-3, 3.14) out to the mound in what appears to be a pitching mismatch. Although Weaver isn’t the same pitcher that he once was, he’s still considered an above average pitcher and the Houston Astros are headed for another 100 loss season as they’re steadily declining.
Betting Weaver and the Halos at -190 with the way that superstar Mike Trout has been playing, doesn’t seem like a smart bet. I still think that the Angels should handle the Astros, who rank near the bottom in almost every offensive statistical category but have won 6 out of their last 10 games, quite easily. The run-line appears to be the way to go where this game is concerned.
As for Trout, he came out of yesterday’s game early for precautionary reasons and I expect him to be in today’s lineup. Even when he’s not playing his best, he’s picked up a hit in 8 out of his last 10 games and is coming off of a 2 for 3 performance with 3 RBI’s in the Angels 9-3 victory over the Astros yesterday.
Pick- Los Angeles -1.5 +105 at 5 Dimes (Weaver comes up big here)
Arizona Diamondbacks (18-29) at St. Louis Cardinals (24-21)
“Wacha, Wacha, Wacha”
This isn’t the vintage video game Pacman, this is St.Louis’ starter today in tonight’s game against a weak Diamondbacks team in Michael Wacha (3-3, 2.82).
Wacha might finally get the run support that he’s lacked as the Cardinals have finally started to hit and a matchup against Arizona starter Brandon McCarthy (1-6, 5.01) appears to be a bit one-sided.
After a stellar season last year, Allen Craig just hasn’t done the job this season. This Cardinals lineup is loaded and should be a lot better where production is concerned. One of the Cards who is producing is 1st baseman, Matt Adams. Adams comes up with timely hits and is hitting .308 on the season with 3 HR and 15 RBI.
In his last 4 games, Adams is 6 for 15 with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR and 4 RBI. The one knock on Adams is that he doesn’t walk, but this is a player that’s on the rise.
The Cards won’t need much motivation as they destroyed Arizona 5-0 yesterday. This was a game in which Adams went deep and starter Adam Wainwright pitched a 1-hitter. Look for St. Louis to definitely gain some confidence from yesterday’s game.
The Cardinals are a -160 moneyline, but I like the run-line here as I expect another blowout.
Pick- St. Louis -1.5 +140 at 5 Dimes
Good luck, everyone!
