Today we are heading back to Los Angeles and taking the Arizona Diamondbacks again on the plus money line. The way the game went yesterday doesn’t tell the whole story of the match up and I like the value once again on the Dbacks in this spot.
Yesterday’s Recap and the Line
The Dodgers scored 8 runs on 6 hits. That is pretty amazing. Mostly the big damage was done by a grand slam early on in the game. The Diamondbacks though, I thought, had some opportunities let slip away that they should capitalize better on today. They left 6 guys on and were 0-8 with runners in scoring position, they also only struck out 5 times total compared to the Dodgers 12. Just one of those kinds of baseball games where things just get away from you. The Dodgers capitalized on six walks with the Dbacks only managing one. Arizona still has some strong stats to back them up in this spot even with the loss yesterday. MLB betting odds makers have the line right now has come out with them being a nice underdog of around +135.
The Pitchers and Some Offense
Jeremy Hellickson formerly of the Tampa Bay Rays and Scott Baker who spent most of his career with the Twins face off. So far this year Baker has had one outing and was pretty good allowing three earned runs in seven innings against the Padres, he did though allow two homers. Hellickson has not been sharp so far this season coming with an ERA over 5.00 and a WHIP of 1.75…yikes. But he does have better career numbers than Baker with a 3.83 ERA and 1.28 WHIP compared to Baker at 4.24 and 1.25. Hellickson also has a better opponent batting average career wise at .248 compared to Baker at .264. Offensively the Diamondbacks in the last three games are still averaging solid numbers. In that time span they lead the Dodgers in every major offensive category except home runs, and the Dbacks are leading the league in the least amount of strikeouts per game (last three).
MLB Pick: Although the game didn’t go their way yesterday the value still falls on them today and for my MLB picks, I like them to win the second game of this series.
