The New York Yankees take on the Toronto Blue Jays today in Toronto with ace Masahiro Tanaka on the mound. The Blue Jays will counter with young Aaron Sanchez against our MLB pick.

New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays
MLB odds makers have New York at a +109 underdog at Pinnacle sports with Tanaka on the mound. For my MLB pick I'm going to back the Yankees as I like the value on backing a quality pitcher and a good bullpen. The Yankees have not been hitting so well but the pitching matchup makes this a solid play.

New York Yankees
Masahiro Tanaka gets the start and comes in with a 2.89 ERA and 0.96 whip while allowing just one earned run in 14 innings in his last two starts on the road. Against the Blue Jays in his short career Tanaka has pitched really well allowing just 11 runs in 44 innings for a 2.23 ERA and Toronto hitting just .204 against him. Also, he doesn't give up a lot of home runs not allowing any in six of his 10 appearances this season.

If the Blue Jays are able to get to him a little bit the Yankees come in with one of the better bullpens in the American League with a 3.40 ERA but more impressively batters are hitting just .213 against New York's relievers which ranks second in the American League. At the plate is a completely different story as New York surprisingly has been one of the worst in the major leagues this season. They are only averaging 3.84 runs per game which ranks 25th in major league baseball as well as hitting just .233 which ranks 26th in the league. There has not been a lot of production but the talent is definitely there.

Toronto Blue Jays
Aaron Sanchez takes the mound for Toronto and comes in with a 3.29 ERA and 1.20 whip and in his career has a 3.48 ERA versus New York. He has only face the Yankees a couple times allowing four earned runs in just over 10 innings of work and looks to be a solid major leaguer in the making. However, he has given up his share of runs in his last few starts and Toronto has one of the worst bullpens in the American League. On the season the relievers for the Blue Jays have a 3.89 ERA while batters are hitting .261 against them which ranks 12th in the American League. Also, they have a 6-14 record in 53 games pitched and rank 13th in the American League in strikeouts for relievers.

Although they are better than the Yankees are offensively statistically Toronto is a far cry from how they were last year averaging just over four runs per game ranking 16th in the major leagues and hitting .238 as a team ranking 21st. Surprisingly their slugging is really low at just .409 which ranks right in the middle of major league baseball and across the board they don't have a lot of statistics that jump out at you. They do average 1.28 home runs per game which ranks six in the American League but as mentioned Tanaka is not one to give up a lot of home runs.
