The Yankees visit the Padres, and despite their statistics, MLB odds makers have set the total pretty high in this contest so we are going to see where we can find some betting value.

The Free MLB Odds have set the total for this game at 8.5 like at BetOnline +100. I believe both of these pitchers are a bit underrated in proportion to this number so for my MLB Pick I'm going to back under the total. Don't expect a lot of offense today from these two teams.

New York Yankees
Chad Green gets the start for New York and comes in with a 7.20 ERA and 1.80 whip in just two appearances this season with the Yankees hitting just .248 as a team. A closer look at Green would indicate that his numbers are not in proportion to his ability. He just had two short appearances this season and got knocked around his first time at Arizona.

However, prior to being called up he was excellent in AAA with a 1.54 ERA in 14 starts covering 81 innings. More impressive in that time was his 0.98 whip. Of course the majors is not AAA baseball but San Diego has a subpar offense at best and their park is not extremely hitter friendly so look for Green to have a quality start.

At the plate New York is not nearly as good as they have been in the past ranking 22nd in runs scored per game, 25th in OPS and 26th in total bases. They don't strike out that often but I don't expect them to score a lot today against a good San Diego starter who pitches well at home.

San Diego Padres
Andrew Cashner gets the start for San Diego and comes in with a 4.75 ERA and 1.45 whip making his first start coming off the 15 day disabled list. He has not pitched as well as we have seen from him in years past but looking at his last 10 appearances he has been decent not allowing more than three runs in any of those starts.

He has some really good numbers in his last few seasons at home with a 2.46 ERA and batters hitting just .233 against him, as well in his career has a 3.68 ERA and 1.29 whip. At the plate there is not a lot to like about the Padres offense as they rank in the bottom third of the league in most categories.

Currently they are hitting .242 as a team which ranks 24th in the major leagues, along with ranking 25th in total bases and 28th in OPS. They also rank among one of the worst teams in the major leagues in strikeouts averaging 8.93 per game which puts them at 27th out of all major league teams.
