When the Angels face the Oakland A's today in Oakland we have a pitching matchup of two underrated pitchers. MLB Odds have set this total knowing this fact. Where's the value?

The MLB Odds have come out with the total for this game at 7.5 like at Pinnacle Sports +105. For my MLB Pick I'm going to take under the total and look for both of these pitchers to have a stellar performance. Both of them are much better than their current numbers indicate.

Los Angeles Angels
Matt Shoemaker gets the start for Los Angeles and comes in with a 4.76 ERA and 1.28 whip with the Angels hitting .260 as a team. Offensively across the board Los Angeles has been a bit better-than-average in the major leagues highlighted by leading all teams in strikeouts at just over six per game.

They also rank 10th in batting average, 12th in hits per game and 16th in runs per game. Shoemaker is a much better pitcher than his current numbers show and is coming off an extremely good start against Cleveland allowing zero earned runs off of three hits in eight innings. His ERA and whip this season are much higher than his career stats mostly because of a couple bad starts he had at the beginning of the season.

Since May though he has been stellar allowing just 15 total earned runs in seven starts and keeping the hit totals down in most of those games. I expect for him to have another strong start today on the mound against an Oakland team that can struggle to score runs at times. Another boost to Los Angeles also is that they now have closer Huston Street back and healthy who has only allowed runs one time in his last five appearances.

Oakland A's
Kendall Graveman takes the mound for Oakland and comes in with a 5.28 ERA and 1.65 whip with the A's hitting .253 as a team. That batting average ranks them 15th in the major leagues and they average just over four runs a game which ranks them 22nd. Graveman, like Shoemaker, is much better than his current numbers as he has struggled just a few times this season.

However, at home he has been solid with a 3.38 ERA and he is coming off a decent outing in which he allowed one earned run in four innings at Cincinnati. In his last two home starts he has been solid allowing four total earned runs in 12 innings but his hit totals have been a little bit too high in proportion to his innings pitched.

Still, he's a good enough pitcher to keep the Angels in check today and in his career two starts against Los Angeles he has a 2.45 ERA allowing three earned runs in 11 innings. If the Angels get to him Oakland has a decent bullpen that has a total 3.81 ERA and ranks fifth in the American League in strikeouts. For Graveman being at home should be the difference in him keeping the run totals to a minimum.
