The early morning breakdown of the baseball odds has arrived, so let's get right to it. Get in the know with your handicapping.

Orioles (Chen) vs. Red Sox (Doubront)

Covered by Ron Patrick

The Red Sox currently hold a 1.5-game lead on the Rays in the division, while the Orioles are trailing by 2.5 games in the race for a wildcard spot. Clearly this is a pivotal series for both ballclubs.

Two southpaws in Felix Doubront and Wei-Yin Chen take the bump at Fenway tonight. Doubront was tagged for seven hits and four runs against Baltimore earlier this season, while Chen allowed five hits and three runs over 6 and 1/3 innings in a loss to Boston in April.

This appears to be a very tight game when looking over all the statistics and motivation factors, but Ron thinks Boston's slight advantage against lefties makes the difference here. He's taking the Red Sox at -130 in the MLB odds.

Rangers (Holland) vs. Mariners (Iwakuma)

Covered by Willie Bee

Don't expect too much offense tonight when Hisashi Iwakuma and Derek Holland try to out-perform one another.

Iwakuma has been a little shakier over the last couple months but he's still sporting a sub-3.00 ERA (2.98) and has gone 5-3 with a 2.88 ERA at home. At the same time, Holland has been tremendous on the road, going 7-1 with a 2.74 ERA in 13 starts. He's also shut down Seattle this season, allowing two earned runs in 19.2 IP.

The total for tonight is at seven runs and Willie did briefly consider going with the UNDER, but in the end he's backing Texas as small road favorites. He's thinking the Rangers bats give Holland enough support.

Cubs (Wood) vs. Dodgers (Kershaw)

Covered by Ron Patrick

The Dodgers opened at about -295 to win tonight, and at some online sportsbooks that number has risen to as high as -320.

You see, Clayton Kershaw's on the mound and that tends to bring with it good results for the Dodgers. The left-hander has won three straight decisions and has surrendered a measly 11 hits and one earned run in those 24 innings of work. His ERA is down to a miniscule 1.72 on the year.

Chicago's Travis Wood (7-10, 3.22 ERA, 1.11 WHIP) hasn't been pitching poorly by any stretch of the imagination, especially out on the road where he's got a 2.89 ERA through 62.1 IP. Still, Ron isn't about to fade the Dodgers right now and is going to get more bang for his buck by utilizing the run-line, which can be found at -125.

Phillies (Kendrick) vs. Mets (Niese)

Covered by Joe Freda

The Phillies are playing good ball right now, winning two in a row and seven of their past ten. Conversely, the Mets have dropped five straight and now find themselves behind Philadelphia in the NL East standings.

Tonight we've got Jonathon Niese and Kyle Kendrick on the mound. Niese has looked sharp since his return from injury, whereas Kendrick has gone 2-4 with a 7.46 ERA in seven starts since the All-Star Break.

Despite Kendrick's recent issues, the Phillies have done well against the Mets at Citi Field, winning five of the last seven meetings there. Joe believes the hotter team in Philadelphia is worth a play at +120.

Orioles (Chen) vs. Red Sox (Doubront)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Felix Doubront was splendid in his last start, but Wei-Yin Chen was excellent as well. Who pitches better tonight in this crucial AL East battle?

Having the home crowd support should help Doubront and the Red Sox, and the MLB odds back that up, with the home team listed at -135 to win.

Rangers (Holland) vs. Mariners (Iwakuma)

Covered by Willie Bee

This is a terrific pitching matchup, featuring two of the best hurlers around. Derek Holland has been even better on the road than at home this season, going 7-1 with a 2.71 ERA.

Backed by the better team around him, Holland and the Rangers find themselves favored at -120 at Safeco Field tonight. The total is low at seven runs even.

Cubs (Wood) vs. Dodgers (Kershaw)

Covered by Ron Patrick

So yeah, Clayton Kershaw is pretty good at throwing a baseball. He's now 13-7 with a 1.72 ERA and 0.86 WHIP on the season and is 7-4 with a 1.56 ERA at Dodger Stadium.

Travis Wood has been solid for the most part, but the odds are clearly in L.A.'s favor tonight. It doesn't really matter which sportsbook you check out – the Dodgers are huge chalk at -290.

Phillies (Kendrick) vs. Mets (Niese)

Covered by Joe Freda

Jonathon Niese seems to only be getting better and better since returning from a near two-month injury layoff. He's allowed two earned runs over his last two outings, helping his earned run average drop to 4.03.

What do the MLB betting lines look like for tonight's game at Citi Field? Niese and the Mets can be added to you MLB picks at the price of -125.
