The San Diego Padres begin a six-game road swing against the San Francisco Giants tonight after dropping three of their last four games. Let's review the MLB odds and cash a ticket tonight.

2016 MLB Record: (8-7, +0.87units)

San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants

San Diego Padres (7-12, -4.0 units)
After winning their first two at home against the Pirates, the roof caved in and the Padres were walloped 11-1 in the final game of the three game set. San Diego rebounded in the first game of their next series against the Cardinals with a 4-1 victory but was then outslugged by scores of 11-2 and then last night suffered an 8-5 loss. Offense has not been their friend this season as the Padres come into this one with a .235 team batting average (22nd) and tied for 18th in in runs scored with 72 on the young season.

The implosion of the Padres’ bullpen cost them dearly over the weekend as they surrendered 10 runs in the 11-2 defeat on Saturday and another five in their 8-5 loss on Sunday. Southpaw Drew Pomeranz will get the start tonight in San Francisco as he looks to repeat a stellar outing in his last appearance where he allowed just one earned run while striking out a career high 10 batters in the Padres 8-2 win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Pomeranz brings a 2-1 record with a 2.04 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP while recording 25 strikeouts in his three outings.

San Francisco Giants (9-11, -3.9 units)
The Giants endured a five-game slide before taking two of three in their last series against the Marlins. Unfortunately for San Francisco, and those who backed them in their MLB picks yesterday, they ended the series on a sour note when they could not deliver with bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning and nobody out, bowing 5-4 to Miami. San Francisco is hoping to turn things around on this 10-game homestand after winning only two of the seven games played thus far.

Madison Bumgarner will go for the Giants tonight and would love to duplicate a sterling effort in his last appearance the last time he met the Padres which occurred in September of last year when he took a perfect game into the eighth inning before a pinch hit single unraveled his brush with an historic performance. Nevertheless, the Giants won 8-0 in that contest but that was then and this is now. Bumgarner is 1-2 on the season with a 3.91 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. In his last outing he was narrowly outdueled by the Diamondbacks’ Zack Greinke in a 2-1 defeat that had him going seven innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits.

Betting Analysis
It is not surprising that the MLB odds makers have installed the Giants as big home favorites in this one. San Francisco has their ace on the mound who pitched a beauty in his last start while the Padres are flailing, dropping three of their last four. Though Bumgarner’s numbers don’t look pretty, we all know he will turn things around and if his last appearance is any indication, he may already have done so.

It is too much of a stretch for me to make the case for the Padres. They are team without much of an offense and are facing one of the best in the business in Bumgarner. In addition, the Giants’ lineup is off to a an excellent start as they are tied for third in the majors in runs scored, 8th in batting average and 6th in OBP. While we all want to find a live dog, I can’t see one here.
