We are delighted to share our predictions, as Wednesday’s MLB odds feature a slew of betting opportunities which keen handicappers like yours truly can exploit for maximum profitability.
Phillies (3-4 O/U) vs. Mets (5-3 O/U)
Last night’s tilt between these two clubs went well over the MLB odds total of 6 ½ as the teams combined for 11 runs. But tonight we have two different pitchers and the outcome could be vastly different. Jerome Williams of the Phillies tossed six innings of one run ball in a 4-1 victory over the Nationals last Friday while tonight’s starter for the Mets, Jon Niese, had a decent debut in a 5-3 loss to the Braves pitching through five innings and allowing only one earned run.
The key to this game is what happens after the starters get knocked out and the bullpens come to the rescue. Both pitchers have historically performed well against their respective opponents with Niese allowing an average of just two earned runs over the course of 7 ½ innings pitched in his last two starts in Philadelphia. The Phillies’ Jerome Williams has allowed an average of one earned run over six innings of work in his last three starts when facing the Mets. I believe both teams got enough offense last night to last them a while and the pitchers should dominate which is why I suggest adding ‘under’ 7 to your MLB picks tonight.
MLB Pick: Under 7 (-118) at Pinnacle .com.
Tigers (5-3 O/U) vs. Pirates (4-3-1 O/U)
I expect to see another low scoring affair this evening closely resembling the 2-0 Detroit victory last night. The Tigers are rolling along with a 7-1 record and will turn to Alfredo Simon who pitched the Cats to an 8-4 victory in his debut. The Pirates will counter with Francisco Liriano who is off to a promising start after he pitched seven innings of two hit ball in his debut against the Cincinnati Reds as a +110 dog in MLB odds. Unfortunately his efforts were all for naught as the Bucs bowed 5-2.
The ‘under’ is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in Pittsburgh between these teams and we see another low scoring game tonight. Though Liriano has historically had mixed results against Detroit we believe he is primed for a big season while Alfredo Simon should be able to quell a mediocre Pittsburgh offense.
MLB Pick: Under 7 ½ (-115) at Heritage.com.
Royals (5-2 O/U) vs. Twins (4-3 O/U)
In the first of this three-game set Monday night the Royals clobbered their way to a 12-3 victory over the perennially hapless Twins. Expect more offensive fireworks tonight. Kansas City has exceeded everyone’s wildest expectations in the early part of the 2015 season with a perfect 7-0 record and an offense that is 1st in batting average and slugging percentage, 2nd in on-base-percentage and 3rd in runs scored. Granted the hot-hitting Alex Rios is out after fracturing his left hand in Monday’s clash but the rest of the lineup will continue to smash even without him.
The obvious issue with betting over the MLB odds total here is the anemic offense of their opponents, the Minnesota Twins. Fear not sports bettors because the ‘over’ is 4-1 during the last five meetings played in Minnesota. That record will improve to 5-1 after this one is through particularly when you factor in the Twins’ woefully inept starter Kyle Gibson who lasted only 3 2/3 innings in his debut and surrendered six runs leading to his 14.73 ERA on the season. Any offense generated by Minnesota will be a bonus but we think the Royals may be able to surpass this relatively low total all by themselves.
MLB Pick: Over 8 (+105 at 5Dimes)
