Our resident MLB handicapping professional shares his three MLB picks of the day on the West division. Join us in reading this insightful betting preview article.

San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona DiamondBacks 9:40 PM ET
These NL West rivals have seen the first two games of this series go over the total, and there was an average of 11.0 runs combined scored per contest. According to the MLB betting odds Arizona is a -114 money line favorite on Wednesday, and the posted total is 9.0.

The Giants veteran right-hander Jake Peavy was scratched from his scheduled start tonight due to back stiffness. As a result, Chris Heston was called up from the minors to fill in for Peavy this evening. Heston earned the chance by posting a very good 2.40 ERA in five spring training appearances. His only other MLB start in his career came last September when he allowed three earned runs, six hits, and walked two in 4.0 innings during a 9-3 San Francisco home win over San Diego.

Jeremy Hellickson will be making his Arizona Diamondbacks debut tonight. The former Tampa Bay starting pitcher is coming off a tumultuous past two seasons in which he was plagued by injury, and was for the most part very ineffective.

This is certainly a high total for a National League game, and in my opinion it’s justified. I like the trend of high scoring games in this current series to continue tonight, and one of my MLB picks on Wednesday will be reflective of just that.

MLB Pick: Play on San Francisco and Arizona to go Over the total of 9.0 at BetOnline

Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners 10:10 PM ET
This will be the third game of this series which has seen each of the first two go under the total. As a matter of fact, the last four meetings between these AL West rivals played at Safeco Field in Seattle have all gone under the total. According to the MLB betting odds Seattle is a -126 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.0.

The Angels will send Matt Shoemaker to the mound tonight. Shoemaker is coming off a terrific rookie year that saw home go 16-4 despite being derailed by injury. The young right-handed hurler has gone 3-0 in his career team starts versus Seattle, posting a stellar 2.00 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, and an 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

The Mariners Hisashi Iwakuma will make his 2015 debut on Wednesday. Iwakuma has gone a perfect 5-0 in his career home team starts versus the Angles, and all of those outings have come since 2013. During those five starts, Iwakuma has posted an excellent 1.38 ERA, compiled a superb 0.83 WHIP, and struck out 33 while walking just 2.

MLB Pick: Play on the Angeles and Mariners to go under the total of 7.0 at 5Dimes

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
The first two games of this series between these NL West foes have both gone over the total. The MLB betting odds indicates that the Dodgers are a -136 money line favorite tonight, and the posted total is 7.0.

The Padres Andrew Cashner will make his first start of the 2015 MLB campaign on Wednesday. Cashner has been brilliant in six career starts versus the Dodgers, posting a terrific 1.32 ERA, and five of those six games went under the total. All of those outings have come since 2013.

The Dodgers veteran right-hander Brandon McCarthy will take the hill versus the Padres this evening. McCarthy has gone a very profitable 5-1 in his career team starts versus San Diego, and all of those games have taken place since 2013. McCarthy posted a sparkling 2.43 ERA, compiled a 0.96 WHIP, and had just shy of a 9:1 strikeout to walk ratio during those previously mentioned six starts.

MLB Pick: Play on the Padres and Dodgers to go under the total of 7.0 at Pinnacle
