First-pitch is set for Sunday at 4:05 pm ET at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California.
5 Dimes Sportsbook lists the Tigers as the -119 betting odds favorite and the total for the game is 8.
If Detroit can pull this out, this can set the tone for a big run.
The Tigers send out veteran, Anibal Sanchez (1-0, 1.50) and he’ll be opposed by Jarrod Parker (0-1, 6.48) for the A’s.
Both pitchers have little experience against the opposing team. Sanchez has gotten out of the gate quickly with 2 quality performances in which he’s held opposing batters to just a .150 BA.
Parker, who is known to be the better pitcher, has gotten off to a slow start. You’re going to see a lot of Detroit hitters make contact today as Parker hasn’t been throwing many strikeouts, or walks for that matter; he’s not a strike out pitcher and the Tigers superstars should feast off of him.
Prince of the Dinger
This is a Tigers lineup that’s very deep. Right now, Prince Fielder is the hitter that’s in the zone. Fielder has had back to back games with home runs and has hit safely in 8 consecutive games. In this series, he’s 6 for 8 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. On the season, Fielder has 4 HR, 18 RBI and is batting .436.
Even though Fielder is 0 for 3 against Parker in his career, you can expect Parker to pitch away from the big man; Fielder is a game changer on fire!
Miguel Cabrera is the other big bat in the Tigers lineup. He’s coming off of a Triple Crown last season and started off 2013 at rapid pace. Lately, Cabrera has cooled off, hitting just 2 for 13 with 1 RBI in his last 3 games. Player like Austin Jackson and Torii Hunter have been picking up the slack for Cabrera.
Cold as Ice
Another player that’s been slumping lately is Oakland slugger Josh Reddick. Reddick has been non-existent this season hitting just .121 with 1 HR and 5 RBI. Reddick is just 4 for 33 on the season and hasn’t had any success against Sanchez. The A’s seem to be playing fine without Reddick’s contributions, but think how good a team this would be if Reddick was hitting.
MLB Picks of the Day - get a step ahead!
Smith should have a big “S” on his baseball jersey because he’s been seeing the ball well thus far. In 8 games this season, Smith is hitting .500 with 1 HR and 6 RBI. This is a player that can hit for power when need be and we should see him in the lineup coming off of a 2 for 2 game with 2 BB.
Smith has also hit Sanchez very well. He’s a lifetime 6 for 13 with 2 HR and 3 RBI. Lineups don’t come out until later, but I can almost guarantee that Smith will be playing with the success that he’s had off of Sanchez.
Oakland has the better record, but the Tigers are the betting favorite for a reason. This lineup is loaded and Prince Fielder can win a game alone the way that he’s been playing lately. Look for Detroit to take the rubber match for our Baseball Picks in this one.
