Our MLB capper once again shares his two top totals picks for Thursday. Read this analysis regarding plays on the Rangers vs. Mariners & Brewers vs. Pirates games.

Rangers (Holland) vs. Mariners (Hernandez)
Derek Holland has been very good in his four starts since returning to the Rangers starting rotation. During those outings, Holland has a stellar 2.15 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and compiled better than an 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Since 7/13/2012, Holland has made seven starts versus Seattle, posting a terrific 1.35 ERA, and only one of those seven outings went over the total. The Rangers bats have been ice cold during their previous seven games. They’ve averaged only 2.9 runs per game and hit an anemic .178 as a team during that stretch. Texas has gone 16-5-3 under the total in their last twenty-three games.

After enduring a very shaky recent stretch, Felix Hernandez has seemed to regain his usual good form during his last two starts. He was able to pitch 8.0 innings in each of those outings while posting a spectacular 0.63 WHIP. “King Felix” has seen all three of his starts versus Texas go under the total this season. He was certainly a major contributor to those low scoring games, evidenced by his 2.18 ERA and 0.82 WHIP during those outings.

I like this game to play on the low side of the totals ledger. is one of several major sportsbooks that have the same number and lowest price pertaining to this wager.

MLB Pick: Play on the Rangers & Mariners under 7.0 (-110)

Brewers (Peralta) vs. Pirates (Burnett)
Wily Peralta has been in shaky form during his previous four starts, posting a lofty 4.86 ERA and 1.80 WHIP during those outings. Since the calendar turned to September, Milwaukee has gone 8-1 over the total in those nine games. The Brewers are also averaging a healthy 5.4 runs per game and have a stellar .845 OPS in their last seven contests.

A.J. Burnett has been awful in his previous three starts. During that stretch, Burnett posted a massive 10.12 ERA, 2.19 WHIP, and all three games went over the total. Pittsburgh has gone 7-2 over the total during their previous nine games.

I like this game to be a high scoring affair for one of my MLB picks on Thursday. According to current MLB betting odds at 5Dimes, they provide us with a more favorable wagering value.

MLB Pick: Play on the Brewers & Pirates over 8.0 (-105) at 5Dimes
