Afternoon MLB Odds Update

How are the MLB odds shaping up for Thursday's games? Check out our favorite baseball plays of the day.

Mets (Gee) vs. Yankees (Nuno)

Yes, the Yankees have lost four in a row and, so far at least, are getting their tails handed to them by their cross-town rivals. The Subway Series has been owned by the Mets so far this season.

It's about time the Bronx Bombers got back on track, and the MLB odds have them favored at -190 to get the job done at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees faithful were left scratching their heads yesterday in a blowout loss, with David Phelps not lasting even one inning.

Jeff Grant expects Vidal Nuno to pitch well enough to lead the Yankees to a win tonight. However, he's staying away from a moneyline pick and is picking the home team to win by two or more runs. Ron Patrick is thinking the exact same thing and is making the same play.

Dodgers (Lilly) vs. Angels (Vargas)

Despite some shaky from Ernesto Frieri in the ninth, the Angels held on for the win last night, as they continue to play well after a terrible start to their 2013 season.

Tonight's starters will be Justin Vargas (4-3, 3.43 ERA) and Ted Lilly (0-1, 4.05 ERA). Lilly has only made three appearances since returning from injury, and he's looked pretty good. But, Vargas has been even better and the Angels have been winning a lot when he takes the hill.

Jeff Grant has looked as this game closer and is deciding to make a play on the total. Though the Angels' bats are heating up, he's picking the UNDER 8.5 with his sports picks.

Red Sox (Morales) vs. Phillies (Pettibone)

The Red Sox have dropped two straight games and are an uneven 5-5 over their last 10. They were held in check by Kyle Kendrick and the Phillies last night – can they fare better against Franklin Morales?

Morales will be getting his first taste of MLB action for the season, while young Jonathan Pettibone has looked quite solid for Philadelphia. For tonight, the Red Sox are favored at -125, with the total at nine run

Again it looks like an O/U play is in order, though this time around it's going to come on the OVER. Willie Bee is forecasting both of these offenses to snap out of it to help push the final number over the posted total.

Nationals (Haren) vs. Orioles (Garcia)

The Orioles and Nationals busted out the bats in last night's win for Baltimore. They got after Jordan Zimmermann and that's no easy task whatsoever.

In terms of the MLB odds, Baltimore is again classed as the favorite. They're trading at -125, with the Nationals listed at +115. Feeling adventurous? You can back a comfortable Orioles win on the run-line at +155.

Jeff Grant is going to play it a little safer though and simply go with Baltimore to win at the -125 number on the ML. Washington has struggled as small road underdogs all season long and he expects that to continue.

Blue Jays (Dickey) vs. Braves (Minor)

The Blue Jays may still be in the basement of the AL East, but they're playing better as of late and there's still plenty of baseball to be played. They took the first game in Atlanta and are now 6-4 over their previous 10.

As for the Braves, they've built up a 4.5-game lead in the NL East. Though they lost yesterday, they're still an excellent 15-6 at home on the season, so the chances of them evening up the series seem very high.

R.A. Dickey and Mike Minor are on the mound, but Joe Freda can't help but think the OVER 7.5 runs is right way to go. Toronto's offense has been much improved lately, while we know what Atlanta is capable of.

Biggest ML Favorites

Colorado Rockies (-225) vs. Houston Astros

New York Yankees (-190) vs. New York Mets

Los Angeles Angels (-180) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

St. Louis Cardinals (-165) vs. Kansas City Royals

Tampa Bay Rays (-150) at Miami Marlins

Morning MLB Odds Report

Mets (Gee) vs. Yankees (Nuno)

So much for retribution for the Yankees, who have lost four straight now. They were smoked by the Mets at home last night, with David Phelps failing to even get out of the first inning.

After such a letdown, Joe Girardi's ballclub could really use a good start out of Vidal Nuno. His early results have been promising – he's gone 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 14.0 innings of action so far. We'll have two takes on this game for our baseball picks, one from Ron Patrick and the other from Jeff Grant.

Dodgers (Lilly) vs. Angels (Vargas)

The Angels got some solid innings out of Jered Weaver in his return last night in Los Angeles. They'll turn the ball over to Jason Vargas, who's gone 4-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 2013. The southpaw has logged three consecutive quality starts heading into tonight.

As for the visitors, they turn to Ted Lilly. The 37-year old vet has made three appearances after his long layoff, with one poor outing sandwiched in between two good starts. Lilly and the Dodgers are listed at +145 to win.

Red Sox (Morales) vs. Phillies (Pettibone)

Here's the other series which Willie Bee is looking at closely. Franklin Morales will be making his long-awaited return tonight, as the Red Sox try to bounce back after a tight 4-3 loss to the Phillies yesterday.

In the eyes of the oddsmakers at the top sportsbooks, Boston is heavily favored to grab the victory. The can be found at -155, with Philadelphia at +135 and the total at 7.5 runs.

Nationals (Haren) vs. Orioles (Garcia)

Runs were aplenty in last night's win for Baltimore. It took a while, but the Orioles bats finally exploded and tore up Jordan Zimmermann. Will they inflict similar damage on Dan Haren (4-5, 5.43 ERA) tonight?

Jeff Grant will have his take on this matchup in a few short hours. Freddy Garcia hasn't been too good this season, but Baltimore is still favored at -130. You can back Ryan Zimmermann, who hit three homers last night, and the Nationals at +125.

Blue Jays (Dickey) vs. Braves (Minor)

Joe Freda will have to decide between veteran R.A. Dickey and young lefty Mike Minor tonight. Minor has been far more effective so far this season, recording a 6-2 win-loss record alongside an impressive 2.47 ERA.

Dickey reverted back to his early-season struggles with a poor performance against Baltimore his last time on the mound. He allowed nine hits and six earned runs in the defeat. You can lock down the Blue Jays at +140 in the MLB odds.

White Sox (Peavy) vs. Cubs (Wood)

One of the afternoon games will feature two Windy City teams. The Cubs were good across the board in yesterday's win and are the small MLB odds favorites (-105) for the series finale today.

This is an encounter between two pitchers that are performing at a very high level. Jake Peavy is 6-2 with a 2.97 ERA and Wood has gone 4-3 with a 2.73 earned run average thus far this season. Look out for Willie Bee's MLB pick shortly.
