Afternoon MLB Odds Update

How are the MLB odds shaping up for tonight's action? Check out what's been happening below.

Rays (Moore) vs. Yankees (Pettitte)

Covered by Joe Catalano

Matt Moore has been horrible over his last three starts, this coming after a phenomenal start to his 2013 season. His ERA has almost doubled in just those three appearances, but he'll aim to right the ship against the Yankees tonight.

Yankee Stadium isn't exactly the friendliest environment to try and iron out your kinks, but New York did just get shut down by Chris Capuano in last night's game against the Dodgers. Still, Joe isn't passing up this short price on New York against a struggling Moore.

Red Sox (Lackey) vs. Tigers (Alvarez)

Covered by Joe Freda

A savvy veteran up against a promising young gun. Will John Lackey or Jose Alvarez win the pitching battle tonight in Detroit? Various sportsbooks have the Tigers at anywhere from -120 to -130 in the MLB odds.

Detroit can't be happy with the way they played in their blowout loss to Baltimore in the series finale yesterday afternoon, so Joe Freda is banking on them bouncing back here and taking game one against David Ortiz and the Red Sox.

Athletics (Griffin) vs. Rangers (Lindblom)

Covered by Ron Patrick

This game had already started at time of this writing.

Ron Patrick has been very faithful to the Athletics throughout his series coverage of this division set in Arlington. Nothing changed today, as he picked Oakland to cash at a price of +100.

[gameodds]3/236780/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Mets (Niese) vs. Braves (Minor)

Covered by Willie Bee

Willie was correct in picking the OVER with his MLB picks for yesterday's 5-3 win for Kris Medlen and the Braves. Tonight Atlanta is favored by a large margin against Jonathon Niese and the extremely inconsistent Mets.

Mike Minor wasn't at his best the last time he was on the mound, struggling through six innings, though his team was still able to claw their way to a 6-5 victory. Willie feels as if we'll see plenty of runs again tonight and is therefore going right back to the OVER.

[gameodds]3/236784/43-349-192/us[/gameodds]

Mariners (Hernandez) vs. Angels (Hanson)

Covered by Joe Freda

The Angels won a 1-0 nail-biter last night behind a wonderful outing from C.J. Wilson. Joe Saunders was excellent as well, but got no run support against the southpaw in the loss. The Mariners will be trying to settle the score with their ace on the hill tonight.

You can never feel too confident when you're going against Felix Hernandez, who can shut down any lineup no matter how powerful it may be. This game should be another close one, but Joe Freda is rolling with the better pitcher and taking the Mariners at -115.

Atlanta Braves (-180) vs. New York Mets

San Francisco Giants (-175) vs. Miami Marlins

San Diego Padres (-135) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Morning MLB Odds Report

There are four early games today, so make sure you get all of your research and handicapping in early enough.

To help out for the full slate of games, we'll be examining five matchups closer to see where we think the betting value is hiding.

Rays (Moore) vs. Yankees (Pettitte)

Covered by Joe Catalano

What on earth has happened to Matt Moore? He was arguably the best pitcher in the majors through the first couple of months, but he's fallen apart completely over his last three starts. In that span his earned run average has spiked from 2.18 to 4.12.

Despite Moore's struggles, the Rays are still being given a good chance of winning against Andy Pettitte and the Yankees in the Bronx tonight. Tampa Bay was at +105 at time of writing, while New York was listed at -110.

Red Sox (Lackey) vs. Tigers (Alvarez)

Covered by Joe Freda

The Tigers just dropped their last two in their series against Baltimore, but need to keep thinking positive with David Ortiz and a juggernaut offensive team in the Red Sox now coming to town. Detroit is a -125 favorite for now in the MLB odds.

We've got an interesting head-to-head battle on the mound, as veteran John Lackey (4-5, 3.08 ERA) tries to one-up rookie Jose Alvarez. Alvarez was very impressive in his debut, but will likely be tested against Boston tonight.

Athletics (Griffin) vs. Rangers (Lindblom)

Covered by Ron Patrick

This series has been back and forth so far, but the Rangers have a chance to win the set 3-1 if they take care of business this afternoon. It'll be Josh Lindblom (0-2, 5.94 ERA) on the mound for Texas and A.J. Griffin (5-6, 3.93 ERA) going for Oakland.

Lindblom hasn't been getting murdered or anything, but he's not exactly lighting it up either. He hasn't pitched more than six innings in any of his three starts, all of which were at home. Given his results, it's no real shock to see both teams listed at -105 or so at the sportsbooks.

Mets (Niese) vs. Braves (Minor)

Covered by Willie Bee

The Braves responded nicely after getting swept in the double-header on Monday, beating the Mets 5-3. Chris Johnson had a big three-run homer and Kris Medlen was solid throughout. Will Mike Minor be the guiding force in another Atlanta win tonight?

According to oddsmakers, the chances of that happening are extremely high. After all, Minor hasn't had a losing decision since April 28th. The Braves are one of the biggest favorites of the day at practically -200 in the MLB odds.

Mariners (Hernandez) vs. Angels (Hanson)

Covered by Joe Freda

C.J. Wilson and Joe Saunders were involved in quite the pitchers' duel last night. What can we expect in the runs department for tonight's game in L.A.? Well, Felix Hernandez has been terrific as always and Tommy Hanson has looked much better over his last couple of starts.

The O/U for the game has been set at seven runs. In terms of a moneyline play, you can back King Felix and the Mariners at -108, or you can roll with the home team at +103. L.A. has been playing better as of late, but going up against a stud like Hernandez is always tough and needs to be well thought over before making your MLB picks.
