Willie Bee and Ron Patrick check in with three MLB picks that they like the look of for Thursday's shortened schedule. Are you on the same wavelength as them?

Rays (Cobb) vs. Yankees (Nova)

Covered by Willie Bee

The Yankees are out of the playoff running and therefore have nothing to play for other than pride. Meanwhile, the Rays still have work to do if they want to make the postseason.

They've been doing all they can, winning six in a row to put them in a great position with only four games remaining. After this series finale, Tampa Bay will head to Toronto to close out the regular season.

Tonight it will be Alex Cobb and Ivan Nova on the hill. Cobb has been very good over the second half, going 4-1 with a 2.73 ERA in eight starts. Nova's done similar things though, posting a 5-3 record with a 2.80 ERA in 12 starts since the All-Star Break.

And, even though both pitchers are feeling confident after dominant starts their last time out, Willie believes the best sports betting value is on the ‘Over’ 7.5 runs for tonight's finale.

Angels (Williams) vs. Rangers (Garza)

Covered by Willie Bee

Though the Angels have been disappointing overall this season, you have to give them credit for the way they've been playing lately. At one point in August, they were sitting at 55-71, and they've managed to go 23-9 since that point.

L.A. begins a four-game series with Texas tonight. The Rangers are chasing Tampa Bay and Cleveland in the Wild Card standings and cannot afford any more slip-ups with so few games remaining.

Matt Garza gets the assignment in the opener. He's gone 2-1 with a 3.82 ERA in six starts inside Rangers Ballpark in Arlington this season and he's actually been struggling as of late, going 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA so far in September. Can he turn things around when the Rangers need it most?

Texas will be contending with Jerome Williams, who's 5-2 with a 4.34 ERA on the road in 2013. In four total appearances (two starts) against the Rangers, Williams has allowed 14 hits and six earned runs in 18 innings. In the end, Willie believes the red-hot Angels will be able to get the win as big road underdogs (+158), further damaging Texas' playoff aspirations.

Blue Jays (Buehrle) vs. Orioles (Gonzalez)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Miguel Gonzalez hopes to continue his solid performances this month when he comes up against the Blue Jays at home.

Gonzalez has gone 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA in September, while posting a 6-2 record and 3.81 ERA at home. The right-hander has been effective against Toronto this year, surrendering only eight earned runs in 24.1 IP over four starts.

Veteran southpaw Mark Buehrle takes the hill for the Blue Jays. He's 4-5 with a 4.83 ERA on the road, 1-2 with a 5.48 ERA in September, and 0-2 with a 8.18 ERA in two 2013 starts against Baltimore, but since the break he's managed a 7-3 record and 2.99 ERA.

Will Buehrle be able to close out his season on a positive note? Perhaps, but Ron is under the impression the ‘Under’ 8 runs (-109) listed in the MLB odds will cash regardless. He thinks pitching will win out over offense in the series finale.

Morning Odds

Rays (Cobb) vs. Yankees (Nova)

Covered by Willie Bee

Officially out of contention for a playoff spot, the Yankees now must wait until next season to try and make it to October once again. Losing three in a row and seven of their last ten certainly hasn't helped.

On the other side you've got the Rays, who've won six in a row and are looking like a solid bet to make the postseason for our MLB Picks. Still, there's more that needs to be done, so Tampa Bay (-125 to win) could really use a good start out of Alex Cobb tonight.

Angels (Williams) vs. Rangers (Garza)

Covered by Willie Bee

The Rangers are doing what they need to do, having just swept the Astros at home, but unfortunately for them the Indians and Rays can't stop losing either.

Texas begins a new series against the Angels but will get to stay at home for the four-game set that wraps up the regular season. Matt Garza kicks things off tonight, with the Rangers listed as -175 MLB odds favorites.

Blue Jays (Buehrle) vs. Orioles (Gonzalez)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Too little too late for the Orioles. They won last night, but it's of little importance now that they're certain to miss out on the playoffs. What started off as a hugely promising season turned into disappointment for Baltimore at the last hurdle.

Let's see if the Orioles show some pride and give the home fans something to cheer about in their series finale against the Blue Jays. Miguel Gonzalez and Mark Buehrle will be on the mound, and right now Baltimore is a -130 favorite at the sportsbooks.
