Let's check out what our MLB odds handicappers have to say about today's action.

Braves (Maholm) vs. Cardinals (Kelly)

Covered by Willie Bee

We get that the Braves are at the top of their game, but their road record leaves a lot to be desired and it's not going to be easy whatsoever in St. Louis over the next few days.

Moreover, Paul Maholm comes in off a horrific start in which he gave up seven hits and seven earned runs in three innings against the White Sox. He's allowed 15 earned runs over his last three appearances, all of which came away from Atlanta. Today Willie is picking the Cardinals to cover in a first five innings play.

Pirates (Locke) vs. Giants (Cain)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Don't be fooled by the overall numbers. It's actually Matt Cain, not Jeff Locke, that's been the better pitcher lately. While Locke has a 5.58 ERA in six starts in the second half, Cain has gone 3-2 with a 2.41 ERA in six outings since the All-Star break.

Ron has done his due diligence and feels like he doesn't have a great read on who will win this game straight up. So, he's going to roll with the ‘Under’ 7 runs that's being offered at various baseball betting sites.

Jays (Happ) vs. Yankees (Pettitte)

Covered by Joe Freda

Whereas the Yankees have won four games in a row, the Blue Jays have dropped four straight, putting them at 57-70 overall for the season. They're also a miserable 26-38 out on the road.

New York has a chance for a four-game sweep today, with Andy Pettitte set to start. He gave up six hits and three earned runs in 7 and 1/3 innings in his one start against Toronto this year. Joe believes the better MLB betting value is on the ‘Under’ 9 runs here though.

Twins (Albers) vs. Tigers (Verlander)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Justin Verlander has been an excellent innings eater for Detroit lately, going at least seven innings in three consecutive assignments. In that 23 inning span he's surrendered only seven earned runs while striking out 22 and walking just three batters. Will he out-duel Andrew Albers this afternoon?

Ron's run-line play on the Tigers cashed last night and he's going down that exact same path in Thursday's game. The Tigers are currently favored at -250, but you can grab the run-line at -115 if you act fast.

Dodgers (Kershaw) vs. Marlins (Alvarez)

Covered by Willie Bee

It doesn't matter who Clayton Kershaw pitches against: he's been straight dominant regardless. Nothing should change today against the Marlins.

Kershaw has been slightly better at home, but he's still 5-3 with a 2.03 ERA in 12 road starts on the year, while going 4-1 with a 1.57 ERA in six day assignments. Still, Henderson Alvarez (2-2, 3.41 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) has been solid, making Willie think the ‘Under’ is the right sports pick in this spot.

[gameodds]3/241748/?r3=349/dec&r-1=349/us[/gameodds]

 Rockies (Bettis) vs. Phillies (Kendrick)

Covered by Joe Freda

One of the four night games pits Philadelphia against Colorado. Kyle Kendrick (10-10, 4.36 ERA) will be opposed by Chad Bettis, who's gone 0-2 with a 5.30 ERA on the year. Current MLB odds have the Phillies favored at -135.

And, despite Kendrick's inconsistency, Joe is picking Philadelphia as small home chalk. The Phillies have won five of Kendrick's previous six starts at home and he's banking on that trend coming through again.

Morning Odds

Braves (Maholm) vs. Cardinals (Kelly)

Covered by Willie Bee

This should be quite a series, featuring two of the best teams in the National League. The Braves may have the best record in baseball, but they're only 33-31 on the road this season.

As for the Cardinals, they're 36-23 at Busch Stadium – they're -140 favorites for the opener.

Pirates (Locke) vs. Giants (Cain)

Covered by Ron Patrick

While this has been a truly disappointing year for the Giants overall, one recent positive has been the performance level of Matt Cain, who's gone seven strong innings in five consecutive starts.

Jeff Locke receives the start for Pittsburgh, with MLB odds listing the Pirates as +110 dogs.

Jays (Happ) vs. Yankees (Pettitte)

Covered by Joe Freda

The Yankees have won four games in a row as they try to make a push for a postseason spot. Will Andy Pettitte be able to build off a great start at Fenway last Friday?

You have to think New York, listed at -150 to win this afternoon, will have their fair share of opportunities against J.A. Happ.

Twins (Albers) vs. Tigers (Verlander)

Covered by Ron Patrick

Thanks to a combined seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings, the Tigers strolled to a 7-1 victory yesterday. Today we have Justin Verlander (12-9, 3.51 ERA) going for his 13th win of the season.

Detroit (-250 to win) may have trouble getting runs on the board though against tough rookie Andrew Albers, who's allowed five earned runs over 24 and 1/3 innings since getting the call up.

Dodgers (Kershaw) vs. Marlins (Alvarez)

Covered by Willie Bee

Zack Greinke was solid once again and we expect nothing less out of Clayton Kershaw here against the Marlins.

Even though the Dodgers are on the road here, they're still overwhelming favorites at -235 at the sportsbooks. Miami is quoted at +215.

Rockies (Bettis) vs. Phillies (Kendrick)

Covered by Joe Freda

Kyle Kendrick has been extremely difficult to trust over the last couple of months. He followed up a rough outing in Washington with a solid six innings at home against the Dodgers, so we'll see how he fares this evening.

Colorado have gone a very poor 23-42 on the road this season and Chad Bettis has been having trouble lately, so the Phillies have opened as -135 for our baseball picks.
