MLB Picks: These Two Money Line Dogs Will Bring Home The Bacon

Sunday, May 22, 2016 2:00 PM GMT

Our MLB handicapper is an outstanding 19-9 (67.9%) with his last 28 money line underdog MLB picks, and they’ve came at an average price of +127. Go inside to get two more!

LA Dodgers (Maeda) vs. Padres (Rea)
The Dodgers will enter Sunday’s game having lost four in a row and six of its last seven games. Sunday’s Dodgers starter will be South Korean import Kent Maeda. The southpaw hurler was off to a fabulous beginning to his MLB career in 2016, but has faltered a bit of late. Maeda has compiled a large 8.00 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over his previous two starts.

The Dodgers are 14-8 this season versus teams with a winning record. However, they’ll be facing a Padres club today that currently possesses a 19-25 mark. The Dodgers are 5-14 during its last nineteen games this season versus opponents with a losing record. The Dodger bullpen has struggled on the road thus far, posting a lofty 5.34 ERA as a staff, and blowing 5 of their 13 save opportunities.

Padre pitcher Colin Rea has displayed very good form in four home starts this year, and that’s evidenced by his stellar 1.17 WHIP in those outings. Current MLB odds provides me a best money line price for a wager on the Padres.

Cubs (Hendrick) vs. Giants (Bumgarner)
The Sunday night ESPN Game of the Week will pit two elite National League teams against one another. The Cubs currently have the best overall record in all of baseball, and the Giants have won 10 of its last eleven games.

I don’t think I’m going out on a limb when I say that the general public will perceive this as a starting pitching mismatch. I do believe that Giants will certainly have in edge in that regard, but the disparity isn’t as wide as one may think. Kyle Hendricks has displayed consistently good form in his seven starts this season, and that’s further evidenced by a superb 1.02 WHIP during those outings.

I usually attack a starting pitcher’s recent flaws when fading his team on that particular day. However, today is an exception to that rule. Madison Bumgarner has been exceptional so far in 2016, and enters Sunday’s start in excellent form based on his previous three outings. It’s more the opponent he’ll be facing today that I rest my case with, rather than any weaknesses on his own 2016 resume.

This will be only the fifth time in 42 games that Chicago will be an underdog in 2016. They went 3-1 in their first four games when cast into that role. The Cubs are also 15-6 on the road, 8-2 against southpaw starting pitchers, 18-4 during night games, and 17-4 versus opponents with a winning record.

There’s just too much underdog value for me to overlook in this matchup, despite having to defeat one of the premier pitchers in baseball over the past six seasons. Give me the road underdog for one of my Sunday MLB picks.
