Jake Arrieta In the Spotlight
Not only have the Chicago Cubs secured a post season berth, but 20 game winner, Jake Arrieta will get some exposure on national television as he takes the mound for the Cubs as they face the tough Pittsburgh Pirates. This will be the ultimate test for Arrieta as he faces a Pirates team that has excceeded expectations and have a chance for a near 100 win season. Arrieta has all of the momentum coming into this game as the Cubs are a massive -192 betting favorite against the Pirates.

Greinke or Arrieta For NL CY Young?
Zack Greinke has been dominant this season and it's been expected that he would win the NL CY Young Award. That said, Arrieta (20-6, 1.88, 220 K's) has come on like a ball of fire and I think that he should get some serious consideration.

If there was one pitcher that I would want to give in a one game wild-card situation, it would be Arrieta and the team that faces him will have a major problem.

In his last 10 starts, Arrieta is 9-0 with 1 no-decision. In these starts, he's pitched 78 1/3 innings and hasn't allowed more than 6 hits in any start, while allowing just 4 earned runs. He also pitches at least 110 pitches per start.

These numbers are simply insane and with a slumping Andrew McCutchen leading the Pirates offense, Pittsburgh has no chance in this game as A.J. Burnett is looking to retire and isn't focused on baseball. Pittsburgh does have some formidable hitters in Starling Marte and Josh Harrison along with McCutchen, who is a former MVP in the league, but you simply won't see a pitcher pitch better that Arrieta and with the help of Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, Chicago will win this game as the heavy MLB odds favorite.

Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels: Post Season Implications
I picked the Angels yesterday and they came back in a big 3-2 victory as they're a mere 1/2 game behind the Houston Astros for the last wild card spot in the American League. This Angels team isn't nearly as good as they've been in the past as Albert Pujols is hitting under .240, Mike Trout has had struggles at times, and Garrett Richards isn't the pitcher that he was before last year's injury, but they're still good enough to make the playoffs and they've won 4 straight games while beating up on a weak Seattle team in the process.

Every game is huge for the Angels. If Houston wins and the Halos lose, that's a 2 game swing and the Angels can't afford it. This afternoon, the Angels face a tough opposing pitcher in the form of Hisashi Iwakuma (9-4, 3.67) while Jered Weaver simply hasn't been the same pitcher the last few seasons. This game could come down to the Angels offense as Iwakuma has allowed just 4 earned runs in his last 3 starts (19 1/3 innings).

David Freese
Yesterday, Freese came up with a huge walk-off home run for L.A. and although he's never really lived up to expectations, he has a flair for the dramatics. Freese was also clutch in as a member of the Cardinals in their World Series season (one of many) and the Angels need someone to step up aside from Mike Trout.

Kole Calhoun (.260) Erik Aybar (.268), and Chris Iannetta (.188) have all had poor seasons. As I stated before, Albert Pujols provides the Halos with power, but he's not the same .320 hitter that he used to be. This is not a very good team and all of the pressure to produce is on Mike Trout. David Freese could be the clutch player, like he was in the past, to put the Angels over the top and into the playoffs. Seattle has nothing to play for and the betting odds are very appealing. Make the Halos your MLB pick for Sunday.
