After an easy 2-0 day, we're back to our winning ways & Wednesday provides a considerable amount of MLB games to choose from as we continue to the pursuit for a successful betting season.
Joe C. Record 103-59 +47.59 Units
Yesterday, we had a huge day as we had 2- 2 unit wins apiece. The first one being as we implemented the Drew Hutchison Rule and he and the Toronto Blue Jays covered the run line over the Oakland Athletics and the other win coming with the Under the total in the Dodgers game as the total was 6.5 and the game was a low scoring 5-0 Dodgers win. Let's see what we can do today.
Wacha, Wacha, Wacha
I'm not talking about the 1980's video game Pac Man, I'm talking about the sensational pitching of Cardinals starter, Michael Wacha, as Wacha (13-4, 2.92) has been outstanding this season and he'll be facing an equally exceptional Gerrit Cole (14-5, 2.39) who represents the National League Central 2nd place Pittsburgh Pirates.
This game will be telecasted on ESPN because it's the best matchup of the day and these two team always appear to be competing for the divisional title each and every season with the Cardinals getting the best of the Pirates. The betting total for this game is 6.5 runs and I totally expect a pitcher's duel which means the under the total looks like the play for this game.
Pittsburgh Must Win
At 72-40, the St. Louis Cardinals have owned this season and all of the pressure is on the Pittsburgh Pirates as the Cards have a monstrous 6 game lead. Pittsburgh can't afford to lose as this game has a two game swing involved. Are the Bucs up for the challenge is the question?
I always says that good pitching wins game and Carlos Martinez (12-4) was a tad better than Jeff Locke as he went 8 innings and kept the Cardinals bullpen fresh in a 4-3 St. Louis win yesterday night. The Cards also won the game as their top 4 players in their lineup were a combined 6 for 15, scoring all 4 runs. This isn't one of the Cardinals most imposing lineups, but they consistently produce, playing small ball and their pitchers deliver most of the time.
Players such as Andrew McCutchen will need to deliver in this game as he was 0 for 4 yesterday and of course, a lot of pressure will be on Gerrit Cole. Thus far, Cole has been more than up for the task in previous games as he's tops in the NL in wins, is 4th in the NL in ERA, and 8th in strikeouts. This game should go under the total as neither pitcher will budge an inch.
MLB Pick: St. Louis/Pittsburgh Under 6.5 +104 at 5 Dimes - 2 UNIT PLAY
Clayton Kershaw Day
I'm a stubborn capper. Although I've had a huge season, I've taken Clayton Kershaw (9-6, 2.51) on several occasions and have come up "snake eyes", laying the juice and losing the money. Tonight, the Dodgers host a tough Nationals team, who are in a real battle with the New York Mets for the National League East crown. Expect the Nats to come out in full force as they're used to being on top of their division each season., but the Mets pitching has been elite and this season has belonged to New York.
Streak Is Over
Just like fellow teammate Zack Greinke, Kerhsaw went on a long, extended scoreless inning streak only to have it come to an abrupt ending as Kershaw allowed 4 runs on 9 hits in 6 inning in a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
I'm not worried about Clayton Kershaw as I expect a bounce back effort. My only concern is the Dodgers offense. This is an average lineup featuring Adrian Gonzalez, Jimmy Rollins, Joc Pederson, and Howie Kendrick.
What the Dodgers really need is for Yasiel Puig to get back on track. There's no question that Puig has the best arm in the league defensively, but he has been a disappointment this season, hitting just .246 with 9 HR and 34 RBI. Tonight's game shouldn't be a concern or L.A.as Kershaw should contain the Nats.
