We have an abbreviated slate of MLB games on Monday, but enough to work with as there are some really solid matchups out there. It's the start of a new week so let's get started with our daily picks!

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs

A Reason To Pick Los Angeles Besides Clayton Kershaw
Although the Dodgers don't have much time to travel East after a Sunday night game against the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers have to feel good about themselves as they crushed Tim Lincecum while getting their bats going in a convincing 10-2 victory as they avoided the sweep.

Yasmani Grandal went deep twice along with Adrian Gonzalez and Justin Turner. The top 4 hitters in their lineup went a combined 9 for 15 with 6 runs and 7 runs batted in and that doesn't even include Grandal.

Tonight, they ease into their road trip with a start from the best pitcher in baseball in Clayton Kershaw (5-4, 3.29). Some might say that Max Scherzer is the best pitcher in baseball as Kershaw hasn't had a typical Kershaw-like season, but in a one game situation, Kershaw would still be the pitcher that I would prefer.

In his last game, a 5-3 loss to Texas, Kershaw allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings. For most pitchers, that would be acceptable, but for Kershaw, that's a very poor outing and he was pitching quite well before the Texas game with 5 consecutive dominant outings. Kershaw must come into Wrigley Field and face Tsuyoshi Wada (1-1, 3.68) and Wada is coming off of a fantastic start as the Cubs defeated the Indians 17-0.

In this game, Wada set the tone as he pitched 7 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6 batters. We'll see two confident pitchers in this game with offenses that are inconsistent at times, but have the ability to explode.

Chicago is on a two game winning streak, possess a very respectable 37-30 record and are coming off of a 8-0 victory as they outscored the Twins 12-1 in the last 2 games. Is this really the Chicago Cubs that we're talking about? This is an organization that's used to losing and hasn't won a World Series Title in over 100 years.

Anthony Rizzo
Rookie Kris Bryant is having a decent start to his MLB career, but Anthony Rizzo is the go-to-guy. Rizzo leads the Cubs in every statistical offensive category. For the season, Rizzo has 15 HR, 43 RBI, and a .309 BA to go along with an impressive .420 OBP%. Something has to give in this game but my money is still on Kershaw as he's unstoppable when he's on top of his game.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Yankees

Phillies Pick Up a Win
When the Fightin Phils (24-47) pick up a victory it's always news. They managed to avoid the sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals with a convincing 9-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, they are tremendous betting underdogs against a New York Yankees team which has played well and has used the long ball to win, but are coming off of a 12-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

The Yankees have a decisive edge in this matchup as Michael Pineda (8-3, 3.54) get's the start and "Pinetar" Pineda has had 3 quality outings in his last 4 starts. The only possible concern with Pineda is that the Yankee bullpen might need to get involved earlier than they would like.

The Yankees lineup is loaded with boppers such as Teixeira, Rodriguez, and McCann, but Brett Gardner has really set the tone for the Bombers with his speed, ability to make contact, outstanding fielding, and heavy hitting as of late. In his last 5 games, Gardy is 10 for 24 with 6 runs, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs and 5 runs batted in. It's not going to take much to defeat the Phillies, especially with 6 foot 7 Pineda taking to the mound.

Ben Revere
The Phillies will be looking to Ben Revere to continue his outstanding play as he's coming off of a 3 hit game and has gotten his average up to .282. This is an a team mixed with inexperience and aging players alike and basically can't hit the side of a barn (except for yesterday). Revere is the player that ignites this offense. Although he has no power, he's the poor man's Dee Gordon as he'll get on base and is a threat to steal.

With everything that I mentioned., I look for Pineda to take control of this game and although the game is not bettable due to the extreme MLB odds, the total is appealing as this should be a low scoring affair.
