Is eating the chalk the way to go today as teams send their aces out in full force looking to close each respective MLB series strong? Find out what this skilled sports handicapper has decided as he shares his MLB Picks of the Day.

Early Game Alert: Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Mets
Due to the heavy rain on Sunday, Matt Harvey didn't receive a decision as his Mets were tied with the Reds 1-1 in a rainout. The game was no surprise as Harvey pitched well as usual and the Mets didn't provide any run support. I mentioned once before that Harvey didn't want to go to a six man rotation, but starter, Steven Matz, has pitched so well in Las Vegas that the Mets called him up.

I don't know what Jacob deGrom thinks of all this, but when your team isn't hitting, you must have top flight pitching and that's what Matz brings into this game as he hasn't even pitched a Major League game and the Mets are a moderate betting favorite in this matchup as he faces Josh Smith, who has only pitched 3 innings in his career for the Reds and Smith allowed 4 runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. This appears to be the perfect spot for Matz.

Stopping Votto and Frazier
I won't talk about the Mets offense because there isn't much to talk about. Matz will need to contain the combination of Joey Votto (14 HR, 36 RBI, .288) and Jersey Shore superstar, Todd Frazier (24 HR, 52 RBI, 290). Frazier has broken out into a career year and a matchup with Matz will be difficult as he's never faced him before. This game is more important to the Mets than the Reds as they excel at home. They're 27-11 at CitiField. Take New York and look for Matz to pick up his first career MLB victory.

Cleveland Indians vs. Baltimore Orioles: Make Up Game For Saturday
We get two Sunday night games as the rain was out in full force. In this matchup, Chris Tillman (5-7, 6.22) and the Baltimore Orioles square off against Toru Murata and the Cleveland Indians. This will be Murata's Major League debut and although Tillman has been awful, he has plenty of support offensively to back him up.

Dominant Baltimore Offense
You know an offense is good when their pitcher is 3-0 with a no-decision in his last 4 games while allowing 15 runs on 21 hits in just 20 1/3 inning. Tillman's record should even be worse. I'm not sure what we're going to see from Murata, but I'm not expecting a ton of innings as he's a relief pitcher. The bullpens will be involved.

Betting Odds Unavailable
I've just noticed this fact, but you have plenty of time to ponder over your decision as this is a 7:05 p.m. ET game. Baltimore has won 2 games in a row and are fighting it out with the Yankees in the American League East Division as only 1.5 games separates the 3 teams and they are deadlocked in the loss column.

I'm expecting the Orioles to be moderate favorites in Sunday's MLB odds behind the hitting of Manny Machado (14 HR, 40 RBI, .303, 11 SB) and the power of Chris Davis (15 HR, 43 RBI, .233 BA). Davis has never fully gotten back into the groove since his 50 home run season and he had tested positive for amphetamines, but the power is still there. I like Baltimore as a small bet as I don't know what to expect out of the Tribe's starter who is a reliever.
