After a disappointing day with some upsets yesterday, we look to regain our momentum of winning MLB picks. There is a ton of value on Sunday's slate. See who we like as our picks for August 9th.

Yesterday, we took a big hit as the Rays defeated the Mets in one of our bigger plays. Noah Syndergaard got roughed up early and New York couldn't regain the lead after a 3 run 1st inning. In the other game, we took a risk with a Padres team that was on a 4 game losing streak as they started Tyson Ross at home against the Phillies. Philly came up with the upset. When you get used to winning, it's difficult to accept a loss, but we move on to the next day,
Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves
In one of the later afternoon games, Shelby Miller (5-8, 2.44) is still looking for that elusive 6th win of the season as you have to go back to May 23rd since his last win. That's a span of 12 starts and 8 consecutive losses.
The crazy thing about it is that he carries one of the best ERA' s in the National League. When will the Atlanta Braves provide an ample amount of run support to give this guy a victory? This is as great a spot as any as Miller and the Braves, who have won 3 straight games, face a Marlins teams that is the worst team in the Major Leagues.
At 43-69 and 1-9 in their last 10 games, the Marlins are an insta-fade. Without Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup, the Marlins have no notable players with the exception of Dee Gordon and even when Stanton was in the lineup, this team was losing. This is the perfect opportunity for Miller to pick up a win. If he can't win here, I don't know if he'll win during the rest of the season. Odds makers are very generous, making the Braves a -134 betting favorite.
15 Game Hitting Streak
This is one of the reasons why the Marlins are such a lousy team. In the 3 previous games in this series, Atlanta has outscored the fish 22-13. In yesterday's game, the Braves defeated the Marlins 7-2 and although he's lacked power, Nick Markakis has been making great contact with the baseball and is currently on a 15 game hitting streak with 3 more hits yesterday. I see no reason why Markakis, who is 13 for his last 28 with 9 RBI's, shouldn't extend this streak. Markakis has raised his average above .300 and without Freddie Freeman, he has stepped in to the number 3 hole and delivered despite his lack of power.
Catcher, A.J. Pierzynski is 9 for his last 20 at bats with 1 HR and 5 RBI and has also been a realiable source of offfense as he's hitting above .300. Although the betting trends say otherwise, the Braves in a great spot to win this ball game. Take Atlanta at the great price.

Sunday Night Baseball: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Elite Play in the NL Central Division
Very quietly, the two top teams in the Central Division have been dominant in the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Even at 64-44, the Pirates are 6 games out of the top spot and if thet were in any other division, they would be in first place.
Odds makers have really went out of their way to tempt the bettor to take the Bucs in tonight's game against the Dodgers as the betting odds are virtually even. The only reason why the odds are even is that Charlie Morton (7-4, 4.19) is starting for Pittsburgh and despite having a solid season, Morton is a career 43-65 pitcher with a 4.47 ERA on a good team.
The things that are in Morton's favor is that he's been spectacular at home this season with a 2.52 ERA and is coming off of a no-decision against Cincinnati in which he pitched 7 scoreless inning and only allowed 5 hits. WIth all of this said, I'm just like the odds makers. Morton scares me.
You have to give this guy credit as he's one of the most underrated players in baseball as he's very slight in frame an un-intimidating. McCutchen is a former MVP of the league and a 5 tool player that can play the field as good as any player in the league with his speed and alertness.
McCutchen leads Pirates in almost every offensive statistical category as he has 16 HR and 70 RBI while leading the Pirates in hits, runs and possesses a .399 OBP%. Alex Wood will need to proceed with caution when McCutchen steps to the plate as the Bucs attempt to chase down St. Louis. I will ignore Morton starting and take the logical choice for your MLB pick in this nationally televised ball game.
