The MLB betting totals will be low. Let's look at Friday's pitching matchups a little closer and provide the betting public the best possible opportunity to make a profit with our quality MLB picks.

Rangers (Hamels) vs. Tigers (Zimmerman)
This game comes down to strictly the pitching matchup. Although both of these teams can hit, the betting total is 8 runs and that's a bit high, which makes it appealing. MLB Odds makers look at a team such as the Detroit Tigers and think a massive amount of runs will be scored, but this Tigers team isn't as good as the ones in the past few seasons and Miguel Cabrera isn't the best player in baseball anymore. This is an opportunity for Prince Fielder to prove to his old team that he still has it as he didn't leave on the greatest of terms.

Lights Out
You can say that both Cole Hamels and Jordan Zimmerman have pitched well this season, but Zimmerman has pitched "lights out". He's 5 for 5 in quality starts. In his first 3 starts (19 1/3 innings), he didn't allow a single run. In his last 2 starts, he's allowed 4 runs in 13 2/3 innings and that's still been quite enough for Detroit. Zimmerman is a pitcher that will go 100 plus pitches and basically leave the game in the hands of the offense. I look for him to have another superb outing with a team in which guys are capable of coming up with the big hit.

Cole Hamels
While Cole Hamels (3-0, 3.30 ERA) hasn't necessarily been as good as Jordan Zimmerman, he's certainly done the job, having his worst outing in his last game, allowing 4 runs in 5 innings against the Los Angeles Angels, but he received a no-decision. Look for Hamels to bounce back. He's pitched consistently well as he's the definition of the word "competitor".

Detroit has lost their last 3 games by a total of 20-7. With Miguel Cabrera hitting .269 with 4 HR and 12 RBI, this team will go nowhere. The under is definitelty the MLB Pick with two top-flight pitchers.

Dodgers (Maeda) vs. Blue Jays (Stroman)
We have basically the same scenario and total that we had in the first game. The only thing different is that Toronto is coming off of a huge 12-2 win over the Texas Rangers. Rangers pitching was wild, giving up 4 pitch walks to Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion would deliver in a big way with a home run, 2 doubles, and 6 runs batted in.

Encarnacion is the type of player to wait for the opportune situation as the Rangers pitching was forced to throw the ball over the plate and "EE" was delivering on 1 and 2 pitch at-bats. Tonight, the Blue Jays, who have won 3 in a row, will be facing an entire different beast in the form of Kenta Maeda (3-1, 1.41 ERA). Not having faced the Japanese import could keep the Blue Jays run total down as they don't know what to expect and Maeda is a quality pitcher

David Price's Replacement
Marcus Stroman hasn't been perfect as an ace as his ERA is slightly high at 3.77, but he's undefeated and the bottom line is to outplay your opponent. Stroman is coming off of his best performance of the season, allowing 1 run and 3 hits in 8 innings in a 5-1 victory over Tampa Bay. Let's remember, this guy is no fluke as his career 19-6 with a 3.41 ERA tells us. I expect Stroman to carry the momentum from his last outing into a tough matchup.

The roof should be closed, but I don't think that will play a role in how many runs will be scored. Usually when teams have big run outputs like the Blue Jays did last night and are not used to doing so, they come back down to earth the next game and Kenta Maeda will be a difficult puzzle to solve.
