On the Prowl
We started out the season like gangbusters and managed to avoid going into a reverse trend. Anytime there has been a poor day, we've answered with a strong day in return and consistency is part of the game. Now, it's time to get on a nice run as the All-Star Game is right around the corner.
At An Offensive High Point
The New York Yankees didn't have a great series against the worst team in baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies, but they ended it on a high point with a 10-2 victory. New York's offense is as good as we've seen it in the last few years. When Mark Teixeira is starting to hit for average, you know that they've turned a corner.
We look at some of these Yankee averages and Brett Gardner leads the Yanks at .292 with 9 HR, 38 RBI, and 15 SB. The way that Gardy has been bashing the baseball, the Yankees are in no hurry to see Jacoby Ellsbury return.
Alex Rodriguez is right behind at .290. This has been a banner year for Arod with 15 HR and 44 RBI. He's blended in quietly and the Yankees are finally starting to see some returns on that contract. He's a freak of nature as he's approaching 40 years of age.
Brian McCann is finally living up to the catcher that he was in Atlanta, hitting for power and average, and finally Mark Teixeira is finally starting to hit for average after a few subpar years. When the Yankees picked up Tex, he was an all around superstar and then his batting average plummeted. Now, he's been hitting like the Teixeira of old with 18 HR, 51 RBI, and a .259 BA.
A Fork In the Road
If the Yankees continue to hit like this, they will be post-season contenders. This looks like a hungry team. Tonight, the Yankees run into the much improved Houston Astros who lead their division by 4 games. This will be a huge test for the Bombers as Dallas Keuchel (8-3, 2.35) has pitched like an All-Star all season and should make the All-Star team.
Keuchel has been a beast all season long except for his last 2 starts in which he's allowed 8 runs and 9 hits in 12 2/3 innings. He still managed to split the games and they aren't the worst numbers in the world, but he's slowed down a bit and hasn't been pitching deep into games like he has in the past.
Look for New York to pull off the upset at stupendous odds when placing your MLB picks. The Yankees bullpen is dominant with Betences if it get's to that point. I don't think Keuchel has enough gas left in the tank for the fist half of the season.

A Winning Team vs. A Losing Team
You have a Marlins team with the best leadoff hitter in the league in Dee Gordon and the most powerful hitter and possibly the best overall player in Gianacarlo Stanton, but they can't win baseball games. Could you imagine how many home runs Stanton would have if his home ball park was at a different stadium? He went for the money and is still crushing the ball in a place that favors the pitcher.
Speaking of pitchers, Miami's weakness is pitching and when they get Jose Fernandez back, I expect their record to improve in a major way as Fernandez was proving to be a full-fledged superstar everytime he took the mound.
For the season, Gordon is hitting .352 with 25 SB and 106 hits and we're only at June 25th. Stanton is hitting 27 HR, 67 RBI, and is batting .268. In the month of June alone, Stanton has 12 HR, 23 RBI, and is hitting .361.
With all of that said, we're going to see the Marlins continue to lose as their pitching is weak and they play teams such as the St. Louis Cardinals who dominate their division every single season. The Cardinals once again lead the National League Central Division and I don't see them relinquishing their lead for the entire season as this is a team that knows how to win.
Currently, the Cardinals are on a 3 game winning streak and the Marlins are on a 3 game losing streak. The MLB odds are very appealing if the bettor takes the Cardinals as they are a slight -115 betting favorite with Lance Lynn pitching. The final piece to this puzzle is that I just don't trust Dan Haren to give a consistently solid outing every game that he pitches. 6-4 with a 3.19 ERA is mighty impressive for Haren, but he's simply not trustworthy. Take the Redbirds and lay the juice.
