New York Mets at St. Louis Cardinals
Bounce Back Effort?
The Mets would like to forget about Saturday as they got blasted out of Busch Stadium by the Redbirds as Jason Heyward was a perfect 5 for 5 and Randal Grichuk hit 2 home runs and had 6 runs batted en route to a 12-2 victory.New York will look to salvage one game and avoid the sweep as they have the best pitching in the Major Leagues and are looking to get into the post-season race.

Where the Cardinals are concerned, they usually battle it out each and every season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and this season is no different as the Cards hold a 4.5 game lead over the Bucs and really are the class of the division. This is a big game for both teams. As we know, one game can make or break a team where the post season is concerned.

Favorable Odds
Of course St. Louis is the heavy favorite in this game, but I think the Mets have very favorable betting odds as Jonathan Niese (5-8, 3.61) has been pitching very well as of late and has a major edge in experience over his opponent Tim Cooney.

Niese got off to a poor start this season , but has pitched much better as of late. In his last  He's won his last 2 starts and has allowed 11 runs in his last 41 2/3 innings, which has covered 6 starts. The benefit of Niese going deep into games is that the Mets won't have to rely on their suspect bullpen so heavily. This should be a competitive ball game and the bettor will get their money's worth with the Amazin's as they are a +129 betting favorite.

Michael Cuddyer
One player that has been a major disappointment for the Mets has been Michael Cuddyer. The Mets expected Cuddyer to put up the numbers that he was putting up in Colorado and of course, that's expecting too much as the numbers in Colorado are "wind-aided".

With that said, Cuddy has finally started to sting the baseball as he was 3 for 5 with a home run in last night's ball game and is 8 for 18 with 2 HR and 2 RBI in his last 5 games. New York desperately needs more of the same from Cuddyer as their leading hitter in Juan Lagares, who is batting a dismal .254.

I expect Cuddyer to go big in the 2nd half of the season as New York has no consistent form source of offense. In this game, people are expecting the sweep, but I expect the Cards to let their guard down and look for Jonathan Niese to control the action. Make New York your betting pick here.

Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels
Neither one of these teams have been world beaters, but the Red Sox have played really poorly and are still lucky to be in the American League East post-season race while the Los Angeles Angels are trying to put back their starting rotation as Garrett Richards is coming off of a gem on Saturday night as the Angels defeated the Red Sox 3-0. We have not seen a lot of offense in the first two games of this series as the Red Sox have yet to score a run and the Angels have been winning off of their pitching..

"The X-Factor"
He didn't get a hit last night, but it's senseless to even mention Mike Trout as we all know that he's the best player in the game offensively and possibly defensively. Albert Pujols still has enough left to provide some power for the Halos in his 35 year old body, but the player that I think that makes the difference is Kole Calhoun. Calhoun is coming off of a 2 home run game and when he play's well, the Angels also play well.

Before yesterday, Calhoun hadn't had the season that he had last season, but I'm expecting him to pick up the pace as this is a very underrated baseball player. For the season, Calhoun is batting .271 with 12 HR and 49 RBI. He's basically the Halos 3rd option on offense and sets the tone at the top of L.A.'s lineup.

Thus far, Calhoun has fared well against Boston, hitting .350 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in 20 at-bats. He's also hitting .327 with 5 HR and 13 RBI in the month of July alone, therefore, his numbers have really picked up. Expect him to continue to play well, especially on national television on Sunday Night Baseball as the Angels will defeat the Red Sox for a 3rd consecutive time.
