Time to go back to work after the holiday, and what better way to fill your day by possibly doubling your pay with these coveted MLB Picks of the Day with hardcore analysis for Tuesday.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Pitching Mismatch
Their overall records don't reflect it as these teams are separated by 2 games and the Los Angeles Angels might even be a better team than the Tampa Bay Rays (34-48), but I will take Jake Odorizzi (3-3, 3.91 ERA) over a refurbished Tim Lincecum any day of the week.

Lincecum's accomplishments were huge in the past but the key word is "past" and Odorizzi is a threat to shut out an opposing team every time that he takes the baseball. The only issue with Odorizzi is slamming the door shut, so to speak, but he puts the Tampa Bay Rays, who are a poor offensive team, in a position to win the baseball game and if you look at tonight's game, the betting odds reflect this fact.

Raw Talent
He's been laboring lately, trying to get out of the 5th and 6th inning with 100 pitches to his credit, but Odorizzi is a much better pitcher than the numbers show. He's suffering from lack of run support as Evan Longoria is the only consistent major offensive threat on this Rays club. In his last outing, Odorizzi only pitched 5 innings but allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits while making 108 pitches. Clearly, he need's to address this problem as the brunt of the work is left up to the Rays bullpen.

On the positive end of the spectrum, Odorizzi will never get blown out and has the ability to pitch a gem; a no-hitter perhaps. He'll be hard-pressed to do so in this game. The Los Angeles Angels might be sub 500. underachievers but they have one of the best overall baseball player on their team in Mike Trout and the Vineland, New Jersey native can beat the opposition with his bat or with his glove. The Halos also possess future hall of Famer, Albert Pujols and Pujols has gradually gotten his batting average up to .251, leads the Halos in RBI's with 56, and makes great protection for Trout due to his power.

The Rays are heavy betting favorites. Are they a good fade is the question? Los Angeles has lost 6 out of their last 7 games and I think are a better team than Tampa Bay and has just hit a losing streak and odds makers have really jumped the gun. Make this a small bet on the team from California.

Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros

Imposing Astros Lineup
I know that the Astros aren't the team that they were last season at 44-39, but if you've noticed really closely, they've turned themselves into sub .500 underachievers to plus .500 contenders and it all starts with the young talent that they possess with their offense.

Tonight, they have former 20 game winner in Dallas Keuchel (5-9, 5.13 ERA) starting and although Keuchel has had a terrible 2016, he's finally regained his old form and the Astros, winners of 7 out of their last 10 games, are starting to put the pedal to the metal and look unstoppable.

In his last 7 starts, Keuchel has allowed 4 earned runs or less and with an offense such as this, that's all that Houston need's as guys like Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa will take care of the rest.

Little Man, Big Numbers
That was my go to the line with Altuve, but we might have to add in "MVP" because he's playing at an immensely high level for most of the season as this is the most underrated player in baseball.

For the season, the 5 foot 6 Altuve is hitting .353 with 14 HR, 49 RBI, a .424 OBP%, and 21 SB. Right now, I think that he's the best player in the game now that he's incorporated power into his game. This is the definition of a 5-tool baseball player and maybe the player with the best chance to reach a .400 batting average.

Altuve is 10 for his last 24 at-bats with a double, a triple, a home run and .417 BA. He's such a dynamic baseball player. I'm very high on this guy and if Keuchel keeps the Astros in this game, I wouldn't be surprised if Jose Altuve took over as he's been pushed back in the batting order, allowing him to pick up more ribbies. Houston is the MLB pick here. I want Jose Altuve on my side.
