After Sunday's perfect day of baseball betting, we are back with our MLB picks of the day. We will again back the NY Mets as underdogs, but are eating the chalk in the second matchup.

Joe C. Record 59-38 +18.49 Units

I haven't been giving recaps lately but the second I saw the odds go up for the Mets yesterday and saw that odds makers were underestimating Steven Matz, I wanted to laugh as I knew that the value was huge. Let's hope that they do it again.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs

Lester vs. Lackey
It appears that most of the top pitchers in years past are having poor seasons and Jon Lester (4-6, 3.74) is no different as he manages to push his way through mediocrity and put the Cubbies in contention for a post-season berth. A game like this is very good for his confidence level as he faces the National League Central Division leading St. Louis Cardinals.

The crazy thing about it is that the Cubs, who are quite capable of scoring runs, are giving Lester virtually nothing when it comes in the form of run support.

Lester has had 3 quality outings in his last 4 games and hasn't won a game in his last 8 starts. I was leaning towards the Cubs in this matchup, but that certainly doesn't make me confident. Sometimes certain pitchers are snake bitten by their respective offenses an no matter what they do, their offense puts up a goose egg. I remember when Jeff Smardzija was an ace on the Cubs staff and he would be losing 1-0 games left and right. Lester hasn't been as good and he has better offensive support with rookie Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo.

2 Game Swing
A 2 Game Swing is involved in this game as the Cards have a huge 8.5 game lead on the Cubs, but we have to remember, we're only half way through the 2015 baseball season. That said, this series is huge where Chicago is concerned and I look for them to put their best foot forward.

Kris Bryant
Anthony Rizzo might have slightly better statistics, but Kris Bryant is the best player and leader on the Cubs roster. Bryant has hit safely in 6 consecutive games and had a 2 home run, 6 runs batted in game against the Marlins on Independence Day. In the first week of July, Bryant is hitting .333 and has been producing all season long. One statistic that really stands out is his .383 OBP% and that's because he draws walks as opposing pitchers are afraid to pitch to him. Expect Jon Lester to have a solid outing as the Cubs, who are the moderate betting favorite on Monday's MLB odds board, defeat the Cardinals at home.

New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants

Confidence Shaken
We all know that the defending World Champions are a better team than the Mets, but they are coming off of a rough Sunday Night Baseball game in which Ryan Vogelsong and Bruce Bochy were each ejected in a loss to the Nationals. Vogelsong clearly thought that he pitched a strike and took a couple of steps forward after the umpire called the pitch a ball and the umpire tossed both pitcher and manager.

Regarding the Mets, Steven Matz embarrassed the 1st place NL West leading Dodgers with an easy 8-0 victory as he pitched 6 innings of 2 hit ball while striking out 8 batters. Another good sign for the Amazins is that the bullpen was able to hold down the fort.

The Mets pounded out 15 hits as Wilmer Flores went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI's and Daniel Murphy was 3 for 4 to raise his batting average to .287. This is a really good sign for a Mets offense that had been non- existent. I see this game as a bad spot for the Giants. Take the Mets as an underdog and collect again with my MLB picks of the day.
