We are on another major run as we're 50 games over .500 and nearing the +60 Unit mark. Let's see what's in store for the betting public with our MLB Picks of the Day for Monday.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Pittsburgh PiratesA Beating Waiting To Happen
The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking in top form as they faced Matt Harvey and the Mets yesterday and came away with a 8-1 victory over the National League East Divison leaders. Although the Pirates only scored 1 run off of Harvey, they basically owned him, consistently getting hits off of him and sending him to an early shower. It seemed like Harvey couldn't take the 90 degree weather, but the Bucs thrived in it.

Cole Against the Diamondacks
This is a very favorable matchup for the Pirates as starter, Gerrit Cole, has been dominant this season, the Pirates are at home and are 69-46 on the season while the D'Backs are sputtering around the .500 mark, unable to eclipse it. Pittsburgh is 4 games above .500 and the right hander Cole gets the baseball tonight and he's been stupendous.

Thus far this season, Cole has a 14-6 record with a 2.48 ERA. He has an outside shot at 20 wins and that's a major accomplishment for a young player in his 2nd year. While the Pirates have played outstanding baseball, Cole is on a bit of a slump.

He's failed to record a victory in his last 3 starts and has gone 0-2 with 1 no-decision. He hasn't gotten clobbered, but this is definitely a low point of the season for this overpowering pitcher who has 149 strikeouts in 148 1/3 innings. Even though they possess one of the best hitters in baseball in Paul Goldschmidt, the Diamondbacks appear to be the cure for Cole's problems. I look for Cole to proceed with caution when facing Goldy as he's a game-changer with one swing of the bat.

Much Needed Confidence
While Pittsburgh recorded 8 runs and 15 hits yesterday against the Mets. Aramis Ramirez finally got comfortable putting a Pirates uniform on again as he went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 RBI, and a run. Andrew McCutchen wasn't in the lineup and the cleanup position fit like a glove for the former Brewer.

Pittsburgh is the type of team where a different guy, whether it be Polanco, Marte, McCutchen, or Alvarez, can step up on any given night. Tonight, they have the complete balance of offense and pitching in Gerrit Cole and being that we're playing with a ton of house money, we're choosing the heavily favored Pirates.

Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees: Great Spot For the Bombers
The New York Yankees have a ton of games at home for the remainder of the season and this might help them shrug off the Toronto Blue Jays, who are on their tail. New York got swept in an early series with the Jays at Yankees Stadium, but retuned the favor and regained the lead in the American League East Division by winning the series against the Jays at the Rogers Centre.

Tonight, the Yanks face the 59-58 Minnesota Twins and the Twins need to make something happen immediately as they're 12 games behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central Division.

It's very unlikely that the Twins will catch the Royals, but teams have done it before and there's still 2 months left in the season. Minnesota gets a favorable pitching matchup tonight as they send out a Kyle Gibson (8-9, 3.75) while the Yankees send out Bryan Mitchell (3.72 ERA, 1 Save).  Mitchell has only started one game in his career and I expect Joe Girardi to give him the a quick hook if Joe Mauer and company have their way with the inexperienced right hander.

Reputation Brings Great Odds
Odds makers are really going overboard in making the Yankees a massive -153 betting favorite with Mitchell taking the mound. This should be a competitive game and if you place your MLB picks on the Twins, you will get a run for your money. That said, every game is of utter performance to the Yankees and Joe Girardi handles it in that fashion. Will we see an "A-Bomb from A-Rod" or a "Tex-Message:" from Mark Teixeira or we could see the tandem of Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner use their combination of speed and ability to get on base playing small ball? Ellsbury is trying to get back into the swing of things since his injury and I don't expect the Yankees to let up here.
