It's somewhat of a tough Sunday MLB schedule. Watch as we navigate our way through the tell tale signs of which teams to use on this card as our betting picks.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Oakland Athletics: Rays Not Out Of AL East Race
You think about Tampa Bay Rays this season and all of a sudden after 3 consecutive wins, they have somewhat snuck up there, and are 62-61 and 6.5 games behind the Yankees with 39 games to go in the season. The Rays are average at home and average on the road. This is not completely negative as they get a matchup with a weak Oakland Athletics team and Jake Odorizzi (6-6, 3.02) gets the start for the Rays.

If not for a lack of run support, Odorizzi's record could be much better. That said, he hasn't won a game since July 28th. His team simply doesn't score runs for him and Tampa Bay needs this to change as they have a chance to make a dent into the pennant race.

A 6 Inning Pitcher
You look at Odorizzi's past history and you know exactly what you're going to get. He pitches over 100 pitches each game consistently, but doesn't go deeper than the 6th inning. He's provided 5 quality starts out of 6 outings. If you take the one poor start on August 12 against the Braves away, Odorizzi has allowed just 8 runs in 29 2/3 innings. Today, he faces an uninspiring Oakland team which has only scored 19 runs in 7 innings. if the Rays offense puts up a 3 or 4 spot, this game should be their's.

Serviceable Hitters
Tampa Bay is a team with no major superstars. They have 6 players hitting in that .260 to .280 range and don't have a ton of power as they're led by Logan Forsythe (14 HR, 52 RBI, .281 BA) and Evan Longoria (13 HR, 55 RBI, .272 BA). This is a team that manafactuers runs through the small ball method and against Oakland, it should be good enough.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles AngelsCan the Halos Hit the Knuckleball?
Although everything in this game points to a Toronto win as they're 1/2 game behind the Yankees and the Angels have lost 3 straight, I'm not sold on R.A. DIckey and this is great odds in taking the Angels at home, with Garrett Richards pitching. Ever since Dickey had a 20 win Cy Young season with the Mets, he's been barely average.

If you look back at the Mets trading Dickey, New York made out like bandits and the Jays got a 40 year old  knuckleballer that will eat up innings. Although he eats up innings, he's certainly not reliable from start to start as his 7-10 record and 4.14 ERA indicates. Dickey can have an occasional good game, but he lacks consistency. It's the Toronto offense which contains, the future MVP of the American League in Josh Donaldson to go along with Troy Tulowitzki, Jose Bautista, and Edwin Encarnacion is the reason why the Jays are the betting favorite and competing for a divisional title.

Steal of a Deal
Toronto is coming off of a 15-3 victory over the Angels in which Donaldson had a 4 for 5 game with 1 double, 1 home run and 6 runs batted in. This guy was a major steal for Toronto as he has 34 HR, 100 RBI, and a .301 BA.on the season.

In the last week alone, Donaldson is batting .526 with 3 HR and 14 RBI. It doesn't get any better than that. While I think Donaldson can't be contained, I'm a capper that favors pitching and I will gladly take Garrett Richards over R.A. any day. Richards hasn't been the same since his injury, but even at 80 %, he's better than Dickey and I'm willing to lock in my MLB picks on the Angels to save face in this game after getting clobbered yesterday.
