We had a disappointing day yesterday but today I'm looking at Saturday's MLB slate to correct this situation with my free MLB picks of the day!
Bad New For the Marlins
When you take a betting pick in excess of -200 or more, you better be very sure that it's the right move to make. I rarely make MLB picks like that and have been burnt once this season with a heavy chalk like this, but this is a great situation as you get the best pitcher in baseball in Clayton Kershaw as he faces a team that doesn't know how to win in the Miami Marlins.
This is a bit risky as Kershaw has lost his last two starts and is just 5-5 with a 3.33 ERA. He hasn't pitched up to expectations and his team hasn't provided sufficient run support. This is a career 103-54 pitcher with a 2.54 ERA . It's obvious to the naked eye that he's not a Tim Lincecum, who looked like he was going to have a hall of fame career and then sputtered out. Kershaw is usually in complete command of his pitching performance and pitches on a weaker team than Lincecum.
Stanton Out For Extended Period of Time
I look for the Marlins to really be down in this game after the news that Giancarlo Stanton will be out for up to a month and half with a hand injury. This is a man that can't get a break. Although Miguel Cabrera has been the best player in the game for the last decade, Stanton looked like he was going to take over the title as best player in the game, but for a second consecutive season, will have to miss games.
He was on pace to hit 58 home runs and plays in a ball park that's set up perfectly for the pitcher. He would break all types of records if he played in a home run friendly park such as Yankee Stadium.
The Marlins still have talent with players such as Dee Gordon, but the one thing missing to Gordon's game as he play's against his old squad is power. I look for guys like Joc Pederson and Adrian Gonzalez to capitalize as Stanton is the main source of offense in Miami and without him they're in deep trouble. Lay the massive amount of juice as this is a game that Kershaw can really sink his teeth into.
MLB Pick- Los Angeles Dodgers -235 at 5Dimes
Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Mets
Matt Harvey Day at CitiField
I'm going to be laying a ton of juice today as the Mets have broken their losing streak, Matt Harvey pitches at home, and CitiField is a place in which the Mets are 27-11.
They've been doing a ton of losing and their Terry Collins' head has been on the chopping block, but this is a chance to get back on track. I always look for Harvey to pitch well, but there's word that the Mets are going to a 6 man rotation. This is the last thing that Matt Harvey wants as he's attempting to get back into the swing of things after being off for a year and a half from Tommy John Surgery.
Mets Offense is Non- Existent
This is a major concern as the New York Mets offense is filled with players that are either injured or underperforming. In his last start, Harvey allowed just 1 run on 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings and it still wasn't good enough because he's not getting a sufficient amount of run support.
New York should be more concerned with their offense than their pitching, which is top-notch. Although the Reds don't possess the best offense in the MLB, they possess players that can hit the ball out of a CitiField in which the fences have been moved in.
This is somewhat of a homecoming for Todd Frazier (24 HR, 52 RBI, .293) who is from the Jersey Shore and having an MVP-like season. Frazier is on pace to hit 50 home run and the Mets surely can't compete with that. Right behind him is the consistent Joey Votto out of Canada. For the season, Votto has been average with 14 HR and 36 RBI and a .291 batting average. Average for Votto is the equivalent to great for the rest of the MLB. Matt Harvey will have to be at his very best to beat this offense.
