Recap
We took the slumping Detroit Tigers and ace David Price and the Tigers delivered at near even odds as they shutout the Cleveland Indians 4-0 and then there was the big one. We went with Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers as the heavy road chalk and for most of the game ,the Dodgers dominated and ended up winning 4-3. A win is a win and a 2-0 day is perfection. I'll gladly take it and seek another similar day.

New York Yankees (33-27) vs. Baltimore Orioles (30-30)

A Struggling Sabathia
This could really be the end of the road as C.C. Sabathia (3-7, 5.25) has logged so many miles on that arm that he doesn't have much more to offer.

Sabathia used to be the guy that could go 9 innings and pitch 110 to 120 pitches per game and now he's lucky to pitch 5 to 6 innings per game.

It doesn't help the Yankees cause that they got crushed by the Orioles yesterday 11-3, but the Bombers are seeking different results tonight as the ineffective Bud Norris and his 8 plus ERA takes the mound for the O's. Despite Sabathia's problems, he's managed to provide 2 consecutive quality outings for the Yankees while Norris has been a disaster.

An Average American League East Division
The Yankees lead the division just 6 games above .500 and if you look at their offense, the power is certainly there, but the batting efficiency is average at best. With Ellsbury out, let's look at some of these batting averages.

Brett Gardner leads the Yankees at .277 with Arod following closely behind at .275. Rodriguez as had a better season than anyone could've thought. Then you have Mark Teixeira who has been the best hitter on the team with tons of power and has finally managed to reach the .250 mark, and Carlos Beltran who as quietly got his batting average to .243. These numbers remind me of teams that played in the 1970's before the introduction of PED's.

"Tex"
We could see Teixeira be a factor in tonight's game. Tex is playing in his home town, has hit safely in 9 out of his last 10 games, is hitting .353 this past week and is on pace to hit over 40 home runs and drive in nearly 130 runs.Teixeira has had a monster season and has had that confident look all season long.

For the Orioles, Adam Jones is the man as he carries a .308 batting average  to go along with 10 HR and 33 RBI. Chris Davis ,who hit a home run last night, has managed to regain his power. Now Davis needs to improve upon his dismal .231 batting average.

The Orioles are a confident bunch, but I like the Yankees to break the O's winning streak as Bud Norris should be pitching in the Minor Leagues.

Oakland Athletics (25-38) vs. Los Angeles Angels (31-30)

C.J. Is Due
Let's face it; C.J. Wilson has never lived up to his contract since coming back home to his native Southern California. He's the type of pitcher that will produce 100 pitches by the 5th inning and will try to pick up the win off of the bats of Mike Trout and Albert Pujols. Nothing has changed this season as Wilson is 3-5 with a 3.92 ERA.

For the Angels to be a post-season contender and not be a .500 squad, Wilson needs some stand out performances. Tonight, he gets a solid matchup against the Oakland Athletics, who have been a major disappointment this season. If you back the Halos in this game, the MLB odds are fairly respectable at -132 according to 5Dimes Sportsbook. Let's remember, Wilson is a career 22 games over .500 for his career with a sub 4.00 ERA. This is a game that he must win.

Kole Calhoun
Last night was one of those nights as Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun both went deep for the Angels as they won their 2nd consecutive game in a 5-4 win.

In my opinion, Calhoun is the "X-Factor" on this Angels squad. He has a spectacular season last year and is starting to his as of late. For the season, Calhoun has 6 HR, 32 RBI, and a .276 BA. He's not the leadoff hitter anymore and needs to support Trout and Pujols, therefore opposing pitchers don't look to bypass them.

Calhoun is hitting .307 at home to go along with 5 HR and 18 RBI. Although he need produce on the road, the Halos will gladly take another big night from Calhoun as we're nearing the All-Star Break. Look for the Angels to win a game that they should win against an inferior ball club in the A's.
