Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Alex Rodriguez Goes For 3000 Hits
Hate him or love him, but Alex Rodriguez is breaking records left and right and he's come into this season with a great attitude as he warms himself back up to the fans. Although I'm not a fan of his PED usage, the MLB has made heroes out of David Ortiz and villains out of Arod for doing the same exact thing. I won't lie, I'm a big Arod backer as I think, just like Barry Bonds, that he's had Hall of Fame written all over him before he used PED's.

Rodriguez picked up 2 hits yesterday and although the Yankees have pretty much treated him like garbage, he's kept his chin up and the fans are loving it. He's at 2,999 hits and I do expect him to pick up  hit # 3000 today unless Justin Verlander decides that he doesn't want to be the pitcher that Arod hits 3000 off of.

On the Downward Trend
The Tigers, who had one of the strongest offenses in baseball the past couple of seasons with Miguel Cabrera leading the way, but haven't been as effective this season and it's indicative in their record.

We don't know how Verlander (0-0,3.60) will pitch in this game, but he also has gone from one of the best pitchers into this league to slightly above average. The MLB odds are very appealing in this game if you like New York as Brett Gardner and Carlos Beltran both hit home runs as the Yankees came back and defeated the Marlins last night. There will be a major buzz in Yankee Stadium tonight and New York should come into this game with a ton of confidence as Adam Warren (4-4, 3.78) get's te start for the Bombers.

San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Still Undefeated in a Padres Uniform
James "Big Game" Shields is now 7-0 in as a member of the Padres and he's coming off of one of his best performances in a long time. This is a player who isn't as good as his record indicates as his ERA is now at 3.59 and has been lucky to receive some no-decisions, but then again, the new and improved Padres haven't lived to their billing. San Diego should feel quite confident with Shields taking the mound as he's provided 6 quality outings in his last 7 starts.

Big Win Over Oakland
The 3-1 Padres victory over Oakland isn't as important as Matt Kemp is finally getting his butt into gear. Kemp homered yesterday. It was his 2nd home run in his last 3 games and 4th home run of the season. Maybe Matt Kemp is finally starting to show signs of being the old Matt Kemp that was a threat for the Triple Crown for the Dodgers.

San Diego needs Matt Kemp to be at his best. Along with Justin Upton (13 HR, 42 RBI, 275 BA), this combination could form a formidable duo and the Padres win total will increase dramatically. I expect Kemp to keep hitting well. He has nearly 40 RBI's on the season and confidence is one of the most important things in being successful in whatever a person attempts to do.

Arizona is a merely average team (32-34) which is coming off of a 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday and they are quite beatable in this spot.
