Certain teams being surprising has been the theme for the the 2016 MLB Season thus far. Let's see if the trend continues as we provide you with our MLB Picks of the Day.

It's the start of a new week as we enter the last week of April and things begin to get interesting. Certain teams being surprising has been the theme for the the 2016 MLB Season thus far.

Batimore Orioles vs. Tampa Bay Rays
One More Chance For Archer
Starter , Chris Archer, has been one of those unpleasant surprises as he carries a very unappealing 0-4 record with a 7.32 ERA. That said, Archer has a few things working in his favor in this game.

The Rays showed a ton of power at Yankee Stadium in their most recent series as they dominated New York, Archer will be pitching at home, and although the Orioles have been dominant, they're just 4-5 on the road. The MLB odds boards are where they should be and are very respectable. The question is will this be the game that Archer kicks it into gear and wins his first game of the season?

"The Big 3"
I think LeBron James should have patented that title as everyone uses it. In this case, Baltimore has Manny Machado (6 HR, 11 RBI, .436 OBP%), Mark Trumbo (5 HR, 16 RBI, .376 BA) and Crush Davis (6 HR, 13 RBI, .230 BA).

This is is somewhat of a renaissance for Trumbo as he was a very good baseball player in his hometown of Anaheim, California when he started his MLB career and things went South. Now, he's one of the most feared hitters in baseball, combined with a very young and talented Manny Machado and this strikes fear into the eyes of opposing pitchers.

I'm looking for Archer to keep these guys in check, but it wouldn't surprise me if they picked up an extra base hit or two collectively.

Where the Rays are concerned, it was home run after home run when facing pitchers such as C.C. Sabathia. Guys such as Steve Souza Jr. picked up some confidence and I think that this will carry over to this game. Look for Tampa Bay to pick up the "w" at a quiet Tropicana Field.

Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Mets
Noah Syndergaard at CitiField
This is all that you need to know and is why the Mets are such a major chalk in this game. Syndergaard is their most threatening pitcher at the moment as he literally has flames coming out of his pitching hand and guys such as Jay Bruce and Joey Votto are going to realize this fact very quick.

For the season, Syndergaard is 2-0, 0.90 ERA. We have a long way to go, but he would certainly be the guy that I would want starting for me and the Mets are loaded.

In 20 innings pitched ( 3 starts), Syndergaard has struckout 27 batters and given 3 out of 3 quality starts. He's held opposing hitters to right around .200 BA and allowed a mere 4 walks. Cincinnati has some legitimate hitters, but can't feel over-confident as the native of Texas takes the mound tonight.

New York is coming off of an expected 3 game sweep of the worst team in baseball, the Atlanta Braves. In those 3 games, they outscored the Braves 17-7. The Mets pitching is the best in the league. Although the Cubs have Jake Arrieta , the Mets are deeper.

Didn't Do This In Pittsburgh
Neil Walker is showing an unusual display of power as he already has 7 home runs and we're not even out of the month of April. This is certanly needed as you don't know what you're going to get out of David Wright as Wright always seems to be injured.

Asdrubal Cabrera has hit well for N.Y., but hasn't displayed any power and Yoenis Cespedes is the other real player that can be counted on for big numbers.

I don't expect Walker to keep up this pace as he, unlike Cespedes, was supposed to put up pedestrian-like numbers and isn't getting paid a ton of money. The bottom line is the Mets have everything in their favor in this game and just the fact that Syndergaard is pitching, has to lead you to believe that the Mets will come up with the victory as the MLB pick.
