We're off to a second week in the 162 MLB Grind. I've spotted some really good lines that I think will benefit the bettor and will provide them for you as we make our MLB Picks of the Day For Monday.

The Mets did me in yesterday as I put all of my faith in Matt Harvey and layed a massive amount of juice. While the San Francisco Giants won their game for me, Odubel Carrera (not a household name) took Harvey yard after a spectacular outing by Harvey and the Mets were defeated in a crushing loss, 5-2. Who would've though that the Matt Harvey and Zack Greinke would start the season off at a dismal 0-2?

Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets

Steven Matz Takes the Mound
When you hear those words and you're a Mets bettor, you must be encouraged as this young man was undefeated last season in limited action (4-0, 2.27 ERA). Matz really get's the shaft as he's on the best pitching staff in the majors and has to take a backseat until he proves that he's a superstar.

This means that Matz receives less appearances. Expect that to change. I think that Matz could be one if not the best pitcher in the Mets rotation. He's a real sleeper and he's receiving “sleeper odds” as the Mets are a moderate betting favorite.

Tonight, Matz will have a relatively easy matchup at home against the Miami Marlins (1-3) and the only major obstacles that he'll be facing are Giancarlo Stanton and the New York weather. It's overcast and 50 degrees in Queens,New York. Hopefully, the weather will hold up as this bet hinges on Matz playing an entire game. That said, the Mets should still win anyway according to the MLB odds boards.

Yoenis Cespedes
I remember thinking how great that Yoenis Cespedes would be as a New York Met when he won the home run derby at CitiField a few years ago. The stadium is suited for him and the Mets were smart enough to sign him.

Lately, the Mets' offense has been non-existent, but after a 3- 0 deficit yesterday, Cespedes planted a homer over the left-centerfield fence. This is the guy that they meant to sign. I don't care if he play's golf with the owners. Just as long as he produces when I bet on the Mets for the betting public here.

A David Wright double and Cespedes HR have given me some encouragement where the Mets offense is concerned. They are the far superior team in this game and good pitching wins games. Look for Steven Matz to show why he deserves NL Rookie of the Year, starting tonight,

Los Angeles Angels vs. Oakland Athletics

Sonny Gray Day!!
I'm usually not high on choosing the Athletics, but when Sonny Gray (1-0, 1.29 ERA) get the start, that all changes. Let's not forget that the A's(4-3) are off to a fairly good start and they're facing a very overrated Los Angeles team (2-4) with two stars in Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, but they can't win games.

The Angels have pitchers such as Jered Weaver and Garrett Richards and you would think that this combination alone would be enough to make them a winning team, but both players have had to endure injuries and in Weaver's case, went from one of the best 2 starters in the AL in the last decade to a mere average pitcher.

Sweep Of the Mariners
The Seattle Mariners have had reason to be confident with Robinson Cano's display of power, but they just got swept by the Athletics as the A's held the M's to a mere 4 runs in 3 games. This trend should continue as Sonny Gray is the A's best pitcher.

A Non -Intimidating Offense
I look at the Angels lineup and it's simply an average offense. Kole Calhoun has led the way (1 RBI, .333 BA), but has shown no power and that's a bit surprising for a guy that hit 26 home runs last season.

Yunel Escobar actually leads the Halos in total bases with 10 and if that's the case, they're not going to win many games.

Finally, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols have done nothing thus far as Trout is hitting .200 with 2 RBI and Pujols is hitting just .125 with 3 RBI. That's as bad as it get's. I expect Trout to get out of his funk, but Pujols doesn't hit for average anymore. Look for the A's to carry the momentum over to this game as we grab them as our MLB pick as a 2-unit play.
