Texas Rangers vs Los Angeles Angels: Pressure on the Halos
The Texas Rangers has surprised the baseball world as they've went on a tear and are currently in 2nd place, just 3 games behind the Houston Astros for the top spot in the division. It's the Los Angeles Angels who had been slumping and now are on a 3 game winning streak, trying to get themselves back into the playoff picture at 68-66 and 5.5 games behind the Astros. The Angels have one big thing in their favor and that is that they're a very good home team. Huge game here for both teams as there is a 2 game swing involved.
Is He Done?
Jered Weaver (6-10, 4.94) was once thought of as one of the best pitchers in the Major Leagues. Now, he's not even average since he's endured injuries. Even with another poor season, Weaver still has a career mark of 137-79 with a 3.40 ERA. It just shows how good that he really was at one time. The Angels can occasionally get a good performance out of him, but he's consistently bad. He's going to need one of those rare good performances, because the Angels offense can't be counted on.
In Weavers last 2 starts, he's been a disaster, allowing 14 runs on 16 hits in 11 2/3 innings. His fast ball is gone as his walks to strikeouts ratio indicates and he's also allowed opponents to hit .269 off of him. Weaver will need to come up big in a huge spot as he faces Derek Holland and Holland is coming off of a complete game shutout of the Baltimore Orioles as he allowed 3 hits and struck out 11 batters. Even with that perfect pitching performance, you just can't count Weaver out.
Mike Trout has had an up and down season. He strikes out way to much for manager Mike Scioscia's liking, but he's still a great baseball player. This season, he might not be good enough to win him the AL MVP, but he still is batting .297 with 33 HR and 74 RBI. Trout also has good numbers against the Rangers and Derek Holland. This season, he's hitting..426 with 4 HR and 11 RBI in 47 at-bats against Texas and .346 with 2 HR and 9 RBI against Holland. This game is set up for the underdog Angels and Mike Trout to play big.

Cleveland Indians vs. Detroit Tigers: Odds makers ave Lost Faith in Detroit
You know that they've lost confidence in the Tigers when the Tigers are +146 at Commerica Park. The major reason being is that Detroit has had a poor season and Danny Salazar, the Indians starter, has been a beast all season long on a bad team.
Thus far this season, Salazar is 12-7 with a 3.27 ERA, strikes out more than a batter per inning and has held the opposition to a .217 batting average. That said, Salazar has pitched 18 1/3 innings against Detroit and is pitching close to a 5.00 ERA against the Tigers. Detroit definitely has some good value here despite their 61-73 record.
Detroit's pitching has done them in as they've been outscored 35-9 in their last 3 games. Even with the great Cabrera and J.D. Martinez in their lineup, these numbers are very difficult to get past. Cabrera has only had 353 at-bats and his power numbers are down yet again, but his batting average is an amazing .360. PED's come to mind, but Miggy is considered clean. I'm going to take a stab with the Tigers at these MLB odds in a very small play off of past history.
MLB Pick: Detroit +146 at 5Dimes.
